Who is considered the first amateur to win the WSOP Main Event?

He certainly wasnt a pro when he got his first bracelet though

Infact, if I remember correctly, he was on vacation or something

I suppose the important part of the question is "considered"

I believe Moneymaker was the third amateur to win the Main Event.

The issue isn't that he wasn't an amateur, but 2 people came before him.

Spoiler alert hint, the answer is a winner before 2002.

I also probably asked a question that I'm the only weirdo who has done enough WSOP research to answer so....
