Probably the most epic sporting event I've ever been to. The lead up exploring Mexico City, the travel to the stadium, walking up in a torrential thunderstorm, the loudest crowd I've ever experienced. Not the result I wanted, but such a wild game I got to see in person

every Mexican in the place singing the national anthem at the top of their lungs including the little kids. Wow

I've never been part of a louder crowd. Literal chills at that moment.

In the 1982 world cup match between France and Kuwait, France score a goal Kuwait think should be disallowed (a defender though he heard a whistle and stopped running for a second, which led to the goal). The normal protests ensue that never lead anywhere. Except this time! Kuwaitian Sheikh Fahad storms the pitch and convinces the referee to disallow the goal! An utter scandal! The referee was off course sent home.

Can you imagine leadership of a country not only trying to persuade a referee (or fifa in general) to change a decision, but actually succeeding?? I am so glad we never again will have to experience such a scandal!
