I have had this for several Months now and finally decided to put it together.

I didn't realize this is so heavy.

Now , to try and make a Chip Holder so I can do my 600+ HHR's to label.

The Bit is a 7/8" for the HHR's

I got this same set up. Great little drill press. Just make sure the wobble isn't excessive. I had to send back the 1st one I got. With these cheap drill presses, a small amount of runout is to be expected. Milling is a labor of love. Good Luck with it...it's addicting!

I have about 1400 diamond molds that need milling. Thought costs would always get in the way, either hiring it out or doing it myself.
But I went on Amazon to check out this drill press, thinking I might mentally do it myself if the cost was less than say..$200.

I have been looking for some of the post showing the adapter's made to hold the chips, but can't find any of them.

Anyone know where they are ????

You could recreate something like this with wood pretty easily. The clamps hold down very firmly. The rubber surface (second pic) is important to prevent marring.

Thats some hardcore engineering right there! Far superior to my redneck jig. Nice work (y) :thumbsup:

It's a nice enough jig, but switching sides and switching chips would be quite the PITA. I don't think milling one out takes very long.

I'd actually rather run @duffman's jig. If doing many, I'd modify it to use less effort in the clamping hand.... I'd pin the clamping arm to the jig, but off-center, made from a long piece of wood that extends out. That way, pulling the outside end levers the inside end to clamp the chip. (I'd angle the working face to be perpendicular to the chip.)

Hold the handle, chip is tight; let go, chip is loose and easy to flip.

Yes, it does take too long to flip and switch chips. It's not an optimized design because it was just cobbled together from scrap parts.

Working a updated design with a quick-release clamp, because I do prefer to have both hands free and not involved in the "holding down". The long-lever is a pretty good alternative though, nice idea.

Here is version 2.0 I beefed it up with some scrap quarter round moulding & a mousepad rubber base. Performace is about the same. Got the idea for the jig from @RagsPoker. Love his sets...awesome labels!

I'm in process of setting up a router Jig for milling. Main reason is most of my project chips are very worn and the diameters vary slightly. No way to account for that with a drill press

Yes he did an awesome job. That's what inspired me to try DIY..... But on old worn out chips for now but definitely will be using his labels. They are surperb

Here's some more Pic's of my Final Set Up and it was much harder to get the chips centered than I thought it would be.....

Chips Drilled, Cleaned and Labeled.

Will put a very small amount of Oil after a week or so...

I didn't even remember having these chips, as I was going to use either Pink or Yellow Solids for the 25c chips.

I have 400, so I might even use a couple 100 for $100 chips.

Not sure how Russ does it, but I just apply pressure to the chip using a small piece of a wood shim. I glued a piece of foam sheet to it for better grip. Seems to work fine for me.

I tried that. I even notched the shim to hold down and in. Geared my drill press down as slow as it will go. (which might be my problem). Some chips would just suddenly take off.

I ordered a clamp from Rockler and I'm going to try that.

I also drilling TRK's. Might be part of the difference.

I also use the slowest setting on my press. Which is around 750 RPM i believe. I've also done TRK's with no issue. What brand bit are you using? I did have a problem with the chips spinning with other bits i've tried...which also left the face of the chip too convex. When I started using the current bit I have, (magnate brand) the spinning issues stopped. The current bit I'm using also leaves the cut surface much flatter. Let me know how the clamp works out when you get it. Would also like to see pics of your set up.

I have used a magnate (7/8 inch). But only experimentally. As I approached doing larger quantities, I wanted a 1 inch cut and I bought a different bit (not magnate). I don't remember the name but it also cut convex. I've got a Magnate, 1 inch OTW along with the rockler clamp. I'll send you a pic once I get it all together.
