Q: Do you feel they are rare and authentic?

Q: Do you feel it’s honest and in the spirit of the listing to parallel them with actual WSOP chips, given the fact that they are not?

Q: Was it your intention to hype them up by way of stating the chips “rarity” - targeting new chip seeking folks who didn’t know better?

I stand corrected/updated on that one. Word had not yet reached south Florida.

But most people are still doing it, and it's a good way to prove legitimacy of an offer -- or in this case, illegitimacy of a previous post. A red flag, or in the spirit of how this thread has evolved, a red herring.

Such posting will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with the item or price, contact the seller via private message.....

There is a rule in place to protect sellers

I believe that it’s important to call out a seller’s misleading statement/claim, but it’s equally important to do so in a respectful and professional manner. Avoid getting angry or emotional, as this will just make the situation worse.

No one reported the seller until this morning.

I don’t see how this protects the community of buyers.

What if you DM a seller, and what you hear back only reinforces your suspicion that the listing was inaccurate or even fraudulent?

Should you keep that to yourself, and just let someone else get scammed?

Keeping conversations like that private only protects sloppy sellers and potential scammers, AFAI can see.

There needs to be some mechanism to raise a red flag. I suppose reporting them privately to a mod is the assumed solution, but do they really want to police these issues privately as opposed to making an exception that (responsible) comments identifying a problem listing are allowed?

A PM with seller is not enough and you are correct that currently that is an insufficient remedy. It's not nearly strong enough. Lets just say that I am confident that this message has been conveyed to the powers that be here and there will be a change to the Community Guidelines to address this in a more appropriate way.....
Something to the effect of:
Listings in the Classifieds are to be truthful and should describe the item accurately. Posting misleading or false information is forbidden. If you suspect that someone is violating this policy, please contact a mod as the mods have the authority to modify or remove any post that is deemed to contain misleading or false information. Violations of this policy will result in a warning or Ban as seen appropriate.

It seems sort of subjective what constitutes thread-crapping, unless the rule is “no commenting on any listing ever, except to call dibs.”

If the goal is to help ensure that people know what they are buying, I would hope that factual, polite questions and observations have a place in a listing thread,.

Obviously, doing so abusively is another story.

If you see that an item has been incorrectly described (e.g., different number of chips offered than are shown in the pictures, calling a rack of RHCs THCs, saying the chips are mint when fleabites are visible in the pics, Tinas listed as Paulsons, etc.), is it so wrong to point this out in the listing?

Yeah, you can DM the seller and urge them to change it. But what if the seller is operating in bad faith, and someone buys them before that private request results in a correction? Then you can wind up with a dibs retraction or refund situation, or other complications, which hurt both the seller and the buyer.

It doesn't seem like a black-or-white debate to me. The manner in which a problem is identified should matter. I would think it better to err on the side of protecting the community as a whole, in a civil manner, should take precedence over protecting an individual listing.
