May Be Moving To Northwest Texas (1 Viewer)

Kentucky should be striken from the list too. Eff that.

@Ben might disagree? Shit, I think Katie Perry just recently moved to Kentucky and loves it. We like land and nature and peace and quiet, seclusion is a plus for us.
Been watching the news today? The whole of Appalachia is very prone to terrible flooding.

Love the “Clue” reference in your video!

Come to SW MO. We’ve had a huge influx of those from the west coast the past couple years. Unfortunately, many quickly forgot what they fled from. We need more patriots!! USA!!

YES! Someone else commented on that too on Youtube

What's funny is the cop legit gave me a written warning for going 5mph over, which I wasn't even doing

And I wss respectful as all hell

MO is on oir list. Tonight we are doing a virtual tour of a home in MS

Wow. You use very little energy. Mine is cheaper but I use nearly 6x what you do.

We pay a flat rate of 8.9¢ per KwH. When this contract is over it is going to be 13.9¢ unfortunately. Thanks Abbott.
Winning money on Windy crest/Club875 uses a lot less energy than watching porn obv.

what state were the plates on your rental?
It’s not uncommon here to get pulled for 10mph over or less. They most often do just issue a written warning. I’ve been pulled over twice since moving here a year ago, one for 5mph over and another for 7mph over.
Both times just issued a warning.
Speed limits are set mostly at 75 even on two lane middle of no where highway.
Where they usually get you is approaching little towns where the speed limits will literally drop to 55 or less in a distance of less than a quarter mile.

really? i would need some serious adjustment to my highway driving habits. in MA you are generally good for ~15 over on the highway. anything over 5 is risky in a residential area though, i don't mess around at all there.

but i still don't mess around with out-of-state plates on any rental. they don't even need a reason. i got pulled over here in MA with a rental within 2 miles of leaving the auto body, just driving home. cop gave me an absolute BS reason for the stop but i wasn't gonna make a fuss, don't want to get on the bad side of my hometown force.

Yeah, everywhere I lived cops don't generally bother you unless it's 15mph over on the highway.

So that's why I was kinda caught off guard when this yahoo pulls me over when I'm actually doing the speed limit for once in my life and tries to claim he had me going 80mph (even though we were both in motion on opposite sides of the highway)

He was clearly full of complete shit and just making up a reason to pull me over because he works in the middle of nowhere TX and it was a Sunday morning. But I shut off the car, rolled down all four windows, did the yes sir, no sir and answered all his questions about where I was coming from, where I was going, what my business in TX was. Talked about how we had just sold our house and were looking for a small town to get away from the influx in the Tampa area.

He recommended some town named Graham I think it was? Whatever the case, found it laughable he bothered to write me a warning for his bogus stop, but whatever, small town cops gonna small town cop I suppose.

That’s the same criteria I used to go by in Virginia. I think it’s pretty well documented that folks drive really fast down here. My car insurance rates did immediately go up upon arriving and I’ve got a clean driving record.

It’s very easy to cruise at 90 or even 100 mph out here on the interstate. Outside of the city limits, most of one’s views are 10 miles or more in any direction. 100mph literally feels like 70 back east.

I accumulated double digit tickets/warnings in west Texas, none egregious. Mostly on 287 between Wichita falls and amarillo.

I dunno where you were looking but +1 to dr’s suggestion of being close to a metro. I’m local from out there so I’m partial, the Texmex in some middle of nowhere spots is literally unbeatable (at least to my palate) but you want to be close to things like hospitals, a Walmart, etc.

Weather sucks by the way. Jobs not great unless you wanna be in an oil field. I moved.

Wow that is some heavy energy useage.

Our useage in Brisbane (similar climate to you?) sits around 600 kWh every three months. Main reason I haven't taken the plunge and installed solar. Payback period for our useage case is way too long.

Do you have solar or done calcs for it?

What's are the biggest energy sucks for your house?

I don’t know the area you’re referencing, but it makes me wonder if it’s a common trafficking highway. The stop doesn’t surprise me at all, if that’s the case.

I have a two story, 4,500 sqft house and I average 3,500kw in the summer and right around 2k the fall and winter months. My bill under my current contract is $350-$400 at 9¢ a KwH.

I just renewed a 36 month contract at 13¢ a KwH with plans to pay the cancellation fee when rates drop below 10¢ again.

We have a 1300 sq ft home and used 2,009 kWh, so was around $300 for our last bill.

Holy. Hell. I'm moving back to Texas. We pay .34-.47 here. Our house is significantly smaller than @CraigT78 and our last electric was $720.23.

bill maxes out around $350 in the summer.
Our bill last month was $66. Last July I think it was $130ish, highest we've had. 1900 sq/ft home, 2 people, my wife works from home. We pay 13c/kwh with all fees. How do y'all use that much electricity?

We had a similar experience looking at houses in Lubbock in November. Lots of stuff looked great until we got there. Like, we have to fly there to look and you couldn't let us know up front what we're obviously going to see? Too many people buying sight unseen I guess.

I think the question is how do you NOT use that much electricity?

Well, we've got the central A/C since Florida is hot and humid. We've got two fairly powerful computers, plus a computer hooked to our TV that we use to watch shows via. But we generally don't use the house lights much. We also cook a ton at home, only get takeout a couple of times/week

Up and downstairs AC units, a window unit in the poker room and a mini split in the garage. Pool pump, several refrigerators and a gaggle of kids.

So after our virtual tour where once again the seller made sure to not include a variety of water issues affecting the house in the listing (but we saw them in the virtual tour at least) we started to become a bit frustrated.

This house looked really great from the pictures in the listing. But then in the kitchen she's like "oh, here's where the fridge leaked" and then there were two wet spots in the ceiling in different parts of the house because she didn't know you need to clean out your gutters. And then there was a huge wet spot in the ceiling that she said was from when the tub overflowed TWENTY YEARS AGO.

Good grief!

But then I started thinking and sat down with Jenn and had a conversation to figure our next steps out. When we moved from CT to FL we had never lived down here before. We wound up renting for a couple of years to get our feet wet and learn the area and see whether we wanted to stay.

I haven't had much luck finding homes close to poker rooms that met our criteria and while that hadn't been a primary focus, I'm thinking maybe we should make it one.

I REALLLY want to be able to play live at a place that embraces vlogging so I can bump up the appeal of my youtube channel. So now we're looking at rentals in the Austin and Houston area, as there is TONS of PLO action around those parts.

Plus, they seem to be a lot more green (i.e. the grass is actually green and watered, instead of the dried out crunchy stuff in west texas) which would be less depressing.

We could rent a house for a year and make sure it's somewhere we actually like living and make a decision after that, instead of being locked in. Plus the housing market is eventually going to tumble, so we might set ourselves up to take advantage of that when the time comes.

I'm actually getting more excited about the prospects of being able to play live in these clubs, get on a livestream, meet other vloggers, etc.
