I wonder if this means Paulsons for the retail market. Wouldn't that be fun.

Angel Holdings Godo Kaisha manufactures and supplies playing cards and card games for both the gaming industry and the retail market. The company is based in Japan.

HA. I must have missed this over the TG weekend.

Interesting news nonetheless. I'm positive/hoping for a reentry into the retail market.

They just need to make a new Hat mold for the public, so casinos don't have to worry about cheating. Fully customize-able paulsons would be the dream, but it would also kill the thrill and rarity side of this hobby for a lot of people IMO.

I think colors and edgespot options are more of a concern than molds.

The Japanese company will now make these available to the public.

Looks like a family fun company, father & son. ~130 employees.

Chairman = Minoru Shigeta
CEO = Yasushi Shigeta

No way these guys shy away from the retail market if they are already selling into it. It's probably part of their growth plan and the way they can justify the premium they paid for GPIC.

Bring it! Affordable Paulsons for the masses. I like it!

Would it? Fully customizable quality clay chips have existed for a while, but the allure of certain collectible chips has always been there. Even when Paulson WAS in the home market.

I can't predict how everyone would react, but in my mind there are two camps, hardcore collectors (hoarders, single collectors, set collectors, the buy everything crowd), then there are people who just want the nicest set of chips they can get in the color and edge spots they want. I know for a fact I would sell every chip I have to be able to pick my own colors and edge spots on the THC mold from Paulson and it would most likely be my end all be all set, with that said I would probably start collecting singles or something because I am partially in the addict camp as well.

I guess the real question is do you think people would continue paying 7-20 dollars for AS/ES chips when you could have Paulson make something similar or identical for $1.50 - $2 each? I don't. I am willing to pay that right now only because there are no 818 Yellow alternatives (rarity).

Would people still pay for rare/real casino/old school leaded chips? Ya, there will probably always be a market for that collector type stuff.

Even when Paulson was in the retail market this was not possible. The colors/edge spots were limited to a few combinations and you got crappy looking molds like the Paulson Mold.

If they did offer Paulsons to the retail market, I would expect prices to crash. The reason being, these guys are focused on the Asian markets, which dont command the $1+ price point per chip the US does. Can you imagine at the right price point, how much volume Angel Cards can capture in the Asian market and still make a massive profit?

Sure there will be tiers of different chip sets, and limited sets, and US only sets & what not that will command higher prices. But in general, if Angel gets into retail, I expect waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay lower prices, which is great news for us at PCF. More chips, more options!

So, you think that a company that just bought out GPI will decide to offer Paulsons to the home market, at "WAAAAAAAAAYYY lower prices?"
I'm not following. I just assumed they wanted to make money.

FYP

Profits are dumb. I think I read that in a quarterly report somewhere...

I’m going to Japan over the Christmas holidays. Might try to drive by here.

Definitely try pick up some Angel playing cards too, bridge size. I would be really curious to hear about the quality (and price point). I read somewhere they control 50% market share in Asia for casino playing cards. Crazy. With GemGroup under their umbrella too, are they the global market leader?

This would make me sad. Finally get a shot at the Paulson's we all want and they use a lame mold or limit us? I mean I totally understand casinos are their main priority, just hope there is a solution that makes us happy also.

The website you found is outdated and no longer supported. Try this one.

...and part of the reason that Paulsons cost so much is because they are one of a kind chips. Once a color/edgespot combination is used, it is done. You cannot copy it (though near duplicates are possible).
