I'm surprised this hasnt been mentioned already? GPIC/Paulson got bought out by a Japanese company (1 Viewer)

If they did offer Paulsons to the retail market, I would expect prices to crash. The reason being, these guys are focused on the Asian markets, which dont command the $1+ price point per chip the US does. Can you imagine at the right price point, how much volume Angel Cards can capture in the Asian market and still make a massive profit?

Sure there will be tiers of different chip sets, and limited sets, and US only sets & what not that will command higher prices. But in general, if Angel gets into retail, I expect waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay lower prices, which is great news for us at PCF. More chips, more options!

Not sure that I agree with the pricing premise. GPI controls 95% of the global casino chip (casino cash) market today. Why would the purchase lower prices. I would think that they stay the same or go up.

Also, I know from professional experience that Angel limits sales / placements of some of their products to a very select / limited customer base. I don’t see them having a problem with continuing the ban on non-casino sales.

One could argue that the casino market in the US is mature so unlikely to see growth. Asia is still growing, especially China, so I can see the benefit of buying a western producer to provide "luxury goods" in the Asian market. Having lived in South East Asia for several years, it no longer surprises me that locals would buy something clearly inferior at a much higher price just because it was made in the West.

If I were them, buy up GPI, bury the clay chip line and go all plastic. Clay TH&C goes extinct and what exists is what exists.

Plastics last too long... Clay wears down and needs to be replaced. More sales, more profits. Don't forget the cell phone manufacturers in the East know something about planned obsolescence.

The Japanese company will now make these available to the public.

(i'm just messing with WedgeRock)

The 00 of the 100 and 500 make me think about the "Hooters" eyes. :)

Plastic is easier to manufacture. I’m not sure obsolescence is all that different.

GPI promotes the BJ line (plastics) as their "cost effective" line, but the initial cost is 3x the price (for v7s). I think the "cost effectiveness" comes from the lesser wear.

They really push the lower cost S2 line which in hindsight would of been a great option too. A contact that I befriended while buying slot machines owns a small overseas casino. Currently working on something with them as they are looking to get a new rack.

I don't think there is any real market for luxury custom home poker chips in Asia. Casinos, most definitely, but much more limited than in North America.

FYI: these are the new owners of your treasured Paulson chips.

Looks like a family fun company, father & son. ~130 employees.

Chairman = Minoru Shigeta
CEO = Yasushi Shigeta

No way these guys shy away from the retail market if they are already selling into it. It's probably part of their growth plan and the way they can justify the premium they paid for GPIC.

Bring it! Affordable Paulsons for the masses. I like it!

Do you guys want to mobilize an email campaign? First we identify who matters and then go to town sending heartfelt emails. Perhaps if we do it en masse, we can get them to budge.

Im returning to this hobby after 6 years, finally with a good job and a willingness to spend a decent chunk of change. What did I return to find? A poker chip dark age with no one left making legit chips but CPC :(

edit: no shade thrown at CPC, im gonna buy a custom set as soon as I can get a good design

I don't think that is the right move. I would give it more time. One person should take the helm and contact them with the interest of placing a large order. Request samples, pricing, turnaround time, etc. See where it goes.

Alright I'll leave it to you PCF vets to lead the charge.

Do you think if that fails, we should mobilize to emails?

Not only this, but it should probably be done by someone local to Japan, and fluent in Japanese language/business culture.

A guy who plays a bunch of the P*s tournaments is in Japan. I’m not sure if his handle is the same here.

Confetti for the new year. (y) :thumbsup:

As in any other business, the largest customers will carry the most weight in terms of steering the business. They're de facto stakeholders in some cases. GPI's existing Western casino business is likely to remind the new owners that they make up the bulk of their profits, so if they'd like to sacrifice their biggest customers' sense of security (note: sense of security, not necessarily reality though we know Sunfly felt the burn last year and legitimately so) to chase the 0.0001% of their business in the consumer market, then by all means, make that play. Though, I suppose, there isn't really another legitimate manufacturer of casino secure chips other than Matsui and Sunfly and those are strikingly different than Paulsons as we all know.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy a legitimate customizable retail GPI or Paulson line. Far from it. $$$ talks and everything else walks :(
