A buddy and I made a last minute trip up to the Chunk to play craps last night. Nothing spectacular for the first half hour or so but then this girl and her boyfriend come to the table. It's her 21st birthday and this was allegedly her first time doing any sort of gambling. The table started to drool when they heard this.

The craps tables here have a "small", "tall", and "all" bonus bet that you can make on the come out. No idea how common this is but "small" means hitting 2 through 6 before rolling a 7, "tall" means hitting 8 through 12 before rolling a 7, and "all" means hitting 2 through 6 and 8 through 12 before rolling a 7. "Small" and "tall" pay 35:1 and "all" pays 176:1. I usually bet 2-1-2 (small-all-tall) and I am surprised with how often at least one of the bets hits. I've hit the "all" more times than I can remember.

Well, with lady luck at the table I decide to bet 3-4-3. She hits the "small" (almost right down the line) and just needs a 12 for the "tall/all". I toss a 2-way midnight bet for a nickel each and sure as shit - boxcars. Boom. Stickman asks if I want my bonus return - does a bear shit in the woods? 2-1-2, 2-way this time though. Lather, rinse, repeat, she hits the "small", hits a ton of numbers and finally needs only a 12. Another 2-way midnight for a nickel and BAM. 12. Crew got paid huuuuuuge :)

She rolled for ~35 minutes. Table cooled off (although even a red hot roller would have seemed ice cold at that point) after that but it was a fantastic run. Most exciting craps session of my life. In for $200, cashed out just under $3k. #easygame

Great roll! I love me some craps, too...just wish craps loved me! Over my lifetime I'm probably +/- $100 at the craps table, but I just don't have the stomach for the huge downswings when they come.

That is a stunning roll she had. I need to look at those bets to determine the house advantage and compare that to taking full odds pass/come bets or playing wrong.

That is way better than my best trip to the table. I ran into a hot roller at the Tropicana years ago they had 5 dollar tables and triple odds. I never got to touch the dice. Bought in for 200 like you, colored when she crapped out. $2400...:)

Ya, what Detroitdad said. It's all Greek to me.

What I did understand is you now have enough moo-la for a healthy CPC add-on... Not that you need it, but since when do we really purchase chips cuz we need them?

Srsly nice job.

I've never seen those exact bets offered at a table but it is much like a fire bet. The chances of those bets paying is improbable hence the 35:1-176:1 payouts. I haven't done the math but I presume the house enjoys a large percentage advantage...just like all the bets handled by the stickman.

A sweet craps session is a thing of beauty that creates a great gambol high. One session in vegas a few years back the guy to my right has $1k on a hard way that paid 10 - 1 and bam he hits it. Loved seeing 9K being pushed his way.

Craps is great to play while you're drinking. You don't have to be constantly in attention, can take mental breaks, etc. - unlike blackjack. You reminded me of a time I was watching a guy play roulette. He had the bulk of his chips on and around one square piled high; needless to say it hit. The guy was paid with a casino check. I have no idea how much it was.

Love craps, it's the only thing I gamble on. Well, besides the occasional recreational horse/dog track bet, and flips with you guys. :)

Nice hit, links!

I hit one of those fabled winning streaks at the craps table on one of my first visits to Vegas. That would have been around 1980 - I was making $650/month in grad school at the time and made just over $1,000. What an amazing fun thing to do!

Sadly that never ever happened again. I am sure I have lost back way more than that $1,000 even though I am an odds "hawk". (The craps table is a mish mash of sucker bets and 'best odds in the house' bets. If you don't know what you are doing it is easy to give up a 3%+ edge to the house rather than the < ~1% edge a good player pays.)

It isn't even fun for me any more. Pull out my stake for the session, play 15 - 30 minutes, go broke, go do something else.

But that one night, Shazam! -=- DrStrange

I love craps. Best is when they have to call for a fill. I've seen that in my lifetime twice.

One crazy time, even though they didn't call for a fill, this girl rolled forever and the casino was asking the players to colour up to the large denoms because they were out of 5s, 25s and hundos. The player trays were all full and people were stuffing their pockets with the purples. (Largest denom this casino has). She finally sevened out and every single player passed the dice so she could shoot again. Never seen that happen before.

Yeah! I love this too. In 1995 I was in Aruba at some place when a lady in a wheelchair started lighting it up. The house was doing everything they could to slow her down, offering different dice, stopped for a fill. I was almost down to my last chip and was able to get it all back before she sevened.

it's craps for me too! but were does everyone play? the only place we ever go is casino royale on the strip (it's a dive, but --i think-- the only place in NV that has 100X odds). most of the strip has 3-4-5X odds, and i'm always surprised when i see a lot of $$ on those tables. i (probably wrongly) just figure that the players don't look at the math behind their bets. or don't know the game.

@links_slayer , nice run at the craps table!

I love me some craps! I learned the game for the first time, when I went to Vegas after turning 21. We went to "lessons", that the casino gives in the morning, and that night I won $500 on a $5 table at the Palace Station. Like other's have said, it's the only gambling game I play at the casino. I've got my wife into the game. We go a handful of times to a local casino, that we like here in CO. We always have 2-3 sessions when we go to Vegas. @carlin , we play at Casino Royale, Arizona Charlie's, and other off-strip properties, when we go. We like the cheaper tables, with the better odds.

Dice are out, keep your hands up!

One guy had his trays filled up with green and black for just under 10k. We were at the Linq last summer and saw a dude cash out for 21k. Those are the biggest stacks I've seen (other than walking through Bellagio and seeing 3 or 4 stacks of yellow at a $100 blackjack table). I've never seen a fill at a craps table though - that would be absolutely crazy.

I like the Chunk because they have 10x odds. I usually stick to @PAZ 's strategy for most of my sessions (but play 2-2-3 odds). The wins aren't huge but it keeps the losses in check. Once the trays start filling up I find it easier to get "crazy" with house money :)

That looks much like what I do. Pass line and 2 come bets with full odds. If I double up, then the bets go up too. If I quadruple my bank I'm out of there after the hot roller sevens.

Still never played craps, but this thread made me dig up PAZ on Craps (didn't take that much digging - have it on my Kindle app) to look it over before taking a few hundred to the craps table next time I'm at Borgata. Hope to find the same hot shooter links did.

Nice win links! I have never played craps, but certainly sounds fun going on hot streeks like some of you guys mentions. Maybe ill have to try the next time i go to somewhere with a casino.

WoW!!!! Nice one!

I was at the Chunk yesterday (playing 1/2 cash), and this guy approached the table (from the area of the tournament tables), and proceeds to toss six $100 bills onto the table and says to the dealer, "Merry Christmas, I wanted to tip you personally because you've been such a great dealer to me", then he just walks away. The dealer explained to the table afterwards, that in all the years of dealing (even major final tables), he's never had a $600 tip before, and this one was out of the blue. The tournament was still well in swing, and this guy hadn't even made the money.

For the record, the poker tables haven't been kind to me my last two sessions... :(

I've watched the game a few times but still have no idea how to play. I know how to use Google, but before that do any of you guys have a suggestion for a crash course or anything that you've learned/read? This thread has piqued my interest and I wouldn't mind getting a few drinks and giving it a try next time I'm at the casino.

Play the pass line for the come out roll. If a 7 or 11 rolls you win. 2,3 or 12 you lose. Any other number becomes the point and you want this number to be rolled before a 7 to win. Best bet is to back up your pass line bet with odds once the point is established. In Vegas, this is up to 3 4 or 5 times your pass line bet. Odds bets get paid out at actual odds and there is no advantage to the casino. You stack your odds bet chips directly behind the pass line bet once the point is established. You will know when the point is active when they flip the on/off button on above the number

So betting at a 10 dollar table would be 10 dollars on the line for the come out roll and 30 odds for 4,10 ; 40 $ for the 5,9 ; or 50 dollars for the 6,8. If that is too big of a bet, you can place less than that behind the line or can try to find a 5 dollar table. Odds bets get paid out 2:1 for a 4,10; 3:2 for a 5,9; and 6:5 for a 6,8.

If you bet like this you can play for a long time and will get to learn the game enough so you can learn other bets on the board.
