How old is everyone lol/ is poker doomed? (3 Viewers)

The last “new” game I joined was almost all early and mid-20 something players that worked at the casino together. Being in my mid 40’s I was closer in age to their parents and a few of the players I was older than their parents :wow:

I’m 26 :p but even being one of the younger people on here, for the most part a lot of these older guys have given me advice and helped me in ways that people I’ve known forever haven’t. I say take advantage of it and make some friends on here no matter what their age is. As for the poker perspective,I know plenty of people my age who love playing poker, so it could just be a location thing. I live in a big city so there’s people who do everything over here at every age. But always cool to see some younger folks on the forum, but still like I said. These older folks, they’ve lived longer than us and made plenty mistakes or great life decisions, learn from them!

I can remember being a kid 16 - 20 and playing with old timers who knew and played with my grandfather. It was really fun to hear stories of the man that I never met.

If humans can find foot bones in sheep, Poker is going to be just fine.

I’m 29, learned poker from my late grandfather when I was a younger, always played 5 card draw.

Joined this forum in March, built a table, bought some chips and put together a monthly game.

I’ve got 3 kids 12, 4, and 2 and they love sitting around the table and playing with cards.

I presume that everyone here is probably in their later 30's+. I'm 25, and I feel like a baby compared to everyone here lol. I know poker is a older dude's game, but I hope that I get to meet some more people in their 20's. I wish poker was more accessible to the general public if that meant that I could have a easier time finding folks my age. I doubt poker would die out with the latter generation, but I do wonder if poker's charm is attainable to the younger audience that It needs to be in public light. I remember seeing some twitch streamers playing with Hellmuth (he got so tilted haha), but that was it.

In my 30's. Poker is experiencing another boom as we speak with the advent of the poker vlogging boom brought upon by Neeme and co.

As has been mentioned, the demographics of this site will always skew older due to income. I'm fortunate to be here and to have accumulated what I have. Even if I had joined this site a year later than I did, I wouldn't have gone as deep down the rabbit hole as I did. There's no way I would have been able to afford being here in my 20's. Definitely not while I was in grad school.

Our current group's players are 35 to 80+, with most in the 50s-60s range. The core group has been together for 18 years; many have been friends for much longer than that.

I'll turn 68 later this year, which is about 38 years longer than I thought I'd make it in my early youth.

As I get older, I've come to realize that kids are stupid but think they know everything, young people are stupid and think they know everything, middle-aged folks are stupid and think they know everything, and old people are stupid and think they know everything. I'm starting to see a pattern here....

But the really old people I know are mostly just glad to still be alive, and tend to leave the less important stuff up to the stupid people.

44 here. My game is mostly 30 & 40 somethings, with a few younger/older guys mixed in, depending on the night.

I don't think there's really an age range where poker isn't popular, but there are definitely ranges where life gets in the way much more often. You'll see a lot of active post-college weekly games, guys who all played together in school without wives and kids, with entry level jobs that allow them to play regularly without issue. By 30, that often degrades and hosting becomes more difficult due to the intricacy in coordinating family commitments; many groups will completely fall apart, never to play again. Those who still really want to play but can't host often find games run by the next group: your 40s to 50s group. Usually more disposable income, kids are older so less little league time, this group often hosts the biggest games (though maybe less frequently), as both the slightly younger and slightly older crowds can easily mix in without feeling out of place. The early retirement crowd then mirrors the just out of school crowd - with frequent games just for their core group with a few stragglers.

And then all of this of course varies by area and casino/cardroom availability. But no, poker is not doomed, not by a long shot!

That’s beautiful. I hope that I will have cultivated a group like that down the line

Old enough that:
Star Wars wasn't "Episode 4, A New Hope"... it was just Star Wars.
I got a Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle for my birthday.
I remember when my dad replaced our rotary phone with a touch-tone phone.
2 liter bottles of Coke weren't liters, and they were made of glass with a thin styrofoam label wrapped around them.
A '73 Ford Bronco was nothing too special. It was just a truck.
Kids walked quite a distance to the school bus stop....and without their parents.
