Holy grail Paulson set? (7 Viewers)

Grail set is a personal term but in reality should probably only include sets that are one of a kind or close... some say they need to be pieced together but by not to qualify others don’t. As we’ve seen everyone has a price it just depends on what you’re is.

As you can tell.. I don’t like white $1s or red $5s:cautious:

If a set can be easily purchased just by offering more money than it's worth, then it is not a grail set. Looking at sets come and go, changing hands so many times makes me smirk a bit when I hear them referred to as "Grail Sets".

IMO I think the only set, which is still in the making by @41Pickup , that even comes close to being a grail set would be the 1st edition Tropicana set.

Pretty much this....

Also, the very few 'personal' sets that have been made and are unlikely to 'ever' change hands (especially in classifieds), or small (under 5K chip) sets that are unlikely to ever resurface.

What I would do for a real set of the old school Paulson Bellagio chips... (1998’s?)... now those would be so sick.

It just cracks me up how many people show up on this site and within a month they’re either searching for those chips or they own them. I just don’t remember that sort of behavior before those chips existed. Maybe all the newbs were buying PCAs and the like, and I just didn’t notice. But I feel like these NAGB searching newbs are just being sold a bill of goods.
Shiny does not equal grail
Certainly not grail, but there's no denying their general appeal to the masses. But 'bill of goods'? Horse crap -- buyers dictate the demand and the selling prices, not the sellers..... and pretty mint THC/IHC chips will always rise to the top.

I know you're joking, but for me, those are really close. If Steve Wynn weren't such a shitty human, I'd probably still have them on my grail list (and in my possession).
I'm actually not on that front. I'm one of the few I think that really loves that set, and I made a brief attempt to find a set for myself, but gave up as it seemed impossible. Other than the t25, the colours on that set are awesome and I happen to love the plain mold too.

I'm just jesting with you because I know you've included that in your list of paulson grail sets in the past.

There are only 3 grail Paulson sets in existence. It's science.

meh.

Lakeshore $1 & $5 are great. Can’t stand the $20. You did a great job on the relabel $100, but it isn’t an actual Lakeshore chip.

The only thing I like about the Horseshoes is the history. 8V’s on 39mm chips look like crap in stacks.

The ACF lower denomination chips (25-1000) are all boring. The upper denominations are awesome, but they would hardly get used in home game. And the inlay is nothing special either.

Thankfully we don’t have to agree what is a “grail set” because none of those would be on my list.

I guess we all have different tastes. It's what makes this hobby so great! Some of us like cohesion across a set, others say, "what's that?". Some of us like simple inlays, others of us like busy inlays. To each their own. :)

You know I thought more people would have the Wynn Charity chips. I didn't think they were that rare. I started a Pron thread but nobody has posted, lol. I need to take some pics of my full set (1200ish chips).

I absolutely love the Wynn Charity chips. I would argue it's the #1 brand for poker players in Asia given its history with poker in Macau. It's like the Bellagio I would say if compared to Vegas. It's my Binions or Bellagio or Aria.

As a brand, they get poker right. They opened the Encore Boston Harbor about a year ago and it's the best poker room I've ever seen. Foxwoods had the biggest and best poker room on the east coast for decades, and Encore just made it look like a joke.

The jacks are going down in history, that’s for sure. But I don’t think they are going to be revered quite as much as the PCAs. They aren’t as “old school”.

Only time will tell.

What's the score on the ACFs?

Actually, perfect score is 10, with one point for actual casino. Add 1 to PCA (8) and ACF (6).

If it makes anyone feel better lakeshores and giraffes would do pretty horribly according to that scale but I get that’s it’s a “casino” level scale not just what’s playable for most peoples home games.
