Hey so I’ve been doing some research on getting some better quality chips for my home games (tournaments), and I’m pretty overwhelmed when it comes to all the options the guys and me are willing to spend like 200-300 on a nice set of chips but don’t really know which direction to go as there are so many different kinds. So I’m
Hoping someone can give me some suggestions on the best bang for our buck here. Thank you in advance

Also from what im hearing clays are the best but im just worried about longevity and durability of them, Ive seen people say they can snap them with their hands. is this something i should be worried about?

Get samples. Some look really nice, but don't feel good.

Paulson-CPC clay, but they feel different.

Bud Jones plastic, but slippery. v7 look nice, but have a weird suction cup effect.

Monte Carlo and multiple other options. ABS plastic with a metal slug. Very heavy at 14g.

ABC-BrProPoker ceramic. Very flat and nice looking. Probably best bang for buck with regards to options and quality. Slippery similar to Bud Jones.

Tina ceramic. Tons of options will have spinners due to lesser quality. Best bang for your buck money wise.

Anything can break if you attempt to do so. In a home game clay would be fine, but will get flea bites.

Check other threads for a free traveling sample to new members and try to get samples as 10 chips aka a shuffle stack.

In the $200-$300 price range, the best bang is probably be the upcoming Greek mold ceramic hybrid chips from Broken Arrow.
They are brand new and don’t have samples yet, but they’re likely similar to the ceramic scrown or plain hybrids, which are fantastic.
There should be a sale on these opening up soon, where you can buy stock chips or bring your own design (or hire a designer here on PCF to help you). Be warned, they take about 60 days from when the sale closes to when they are delivered, but they are custom chips for around 40 to 45 cents each (approx).

I recommend reading up on getting the best breakdown for the tournaments you plan to host, or make a thread asking questions. You can save quite a bit getting the right setup of quantities and denominations.

More info here in this thread about upcoming sale… just read through a number of the posts, there’s more info added as it goes:

those look great just the time it takes to get them is long too for me

How many players do you typically have in your tournaments? Are they freeze out, or do you have rebuys? Are they T5, T25, T100 or a different base chip? What are your starting stacks?

A well-constructed 10-player tournament set will consist of 400 chips. That puts chips costing between 50c-75c in your budget.

With chips, you can have good quality, low price, and fast delivery. Pick two.

How does Monte Carlo compare to majestic from Apache? Quality wise
Get samples of both. They're very different and will feel/sound different. Monte Carlo's have a metal slug in them so they'll be heavy and shiny, but some people strongly prefer the feel of majestics. Its worth feeling both before getting a set.

I like the price of the Monte Carlo. But are they considered a quality chip?

No, they are relatively not a quality chip; they are plastic with metal inserted in them so they feel better, as compared to others that are customized or full clay chips. But you're also in a place where people spend well over $5 per chip on some sets, that's a different ballgame than what's considered "quality" here.

In most garages/basements in America? 100% they're a quality chip, shiny and say the number on them and feel nice. If you want to buy them and be happy? Do it, live your life, but I'd advise listening to us on an efficient breakdown. Majority of players will never know/care about the difference between a 30cents/chip set and a $5/chip set.

Its a slippery slope lol. I came here asking a similar question, what's the cheapest upgrade I could buy. Now have 3 different sets, one fully custom. Personally I still love cheap chips because I came here to play poker.

One question I haven't seen asked is "What are you playing with now?"

I play with CC, Tina's, and some really old 2 Stripe Twist chips. An upgrade for me would be some worn out Paulsons from a casino. That would not be considered an upgrade for most of the folks on here.

I’m using the most basic of chips right now. So how much better is Monte Carlo from these?

On a scale where your chips are a 1, and compression-clay chips are a 10, slugged plastics Ike the Monte Carlo chips are about a 3. Worse designs on slugged chips are a 2.

As far as looks go, they are an upgrade. They are about the same chip, though. Plastic chip with a metal slug for more weight.

If you are looking for something closer the average casino weight (9g-10g), there are some options that won't break the bank. Any of the China Clays (CC) are superior to the plastic sluggos, but none of them will reach the quality of the Paulson or TRK chips around here love.

There are also some inexpensive ceramic options that come in all kinds of graphic options.

If I were playing with your chips (all called Dice Chips around here) I would take your time and look around here with some our site vendors and get samples from anything you like.

The best bang for your buck is literally to log out and delete your account.

I came here just over three years ago to make sure I wasn't getting a crappy deal on some Scrolls / Monte Carlos. Today I happily bought some chips at $15 per chip ...

But honestly this place is great, wonderful community, and the hobby is pretty fun. You'll have some good options with your budget, but if you are patient and maybe double it, I'd say you have a chance at some great options.

What structure do you use? T5 or T25 or T100? There are used ceramic sets out there as well. I’ve got a Pappys set I’d part with, it’s a T5 starting chip set
Crappy pictures but it’s the ceramics in the stacked racks. I’ll get better pics tomorrow. In the second pic they are on the extreme right side

What are your thoughts on majestic poker chips? I’ve been hearing some good things about them but concerned about the smell people keeping bringing up, is it really noticeable?
I dont like them. I dont like the smell or the looks, I prefer more customized options or real quality clay chips, not the in betweens.

But thats just personal preference, Im just the asshole who has time today to answer questions lol. Search around for answers, same question has been asked 100s of times.

Do you know anyone on the site selling samples of all the options? Or what I should search for on the site?
Take a deep breath. Post a bit, get access to the Classifieds section and post a wanted ad for samples of whatever chips youre interested in. Id pass you mine but I already shipped them off to some other mook.

Search for whatever you'd like: majestics comparison, no mold vs cards mold, furry porn, scrub donkey, THC vs RHC chips, hot stamps.

I haven’t really noticed the smell issue. Maybe slightly at first, but not after cleaning and oiling.
