I found your forum after looking online for poker chips and frankly was surprised that there is this robust forum made up of people who enjoy poker chips. I play poker with my friends fairly often and we use some of the relatively inexpensive plastic chips that are readily available. I have been interested in purchasing some better chips for our games and found your forum with its excellent classified add section.

To be frank I am interested in joining your forum because I would like to purchase a set of the chips I see advertised on your site. Once I do that I likely wouldn’t check in that often, I hope that is ok with everyone. If you would like to know a bit more about me you can check me out on eBay, my username there is dpetti99 and I have a long history with 100% positive feedback.

My understanding is that before I am qualified to purchase anything On your site I will need to post 10 times, hopefully I can do that with this thread But I’m not sure, so any advice on how I can qualify to make a purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much, dpetti

Eloe2000, thanks for the welcome and I can see that this site can get addictive, I just checked out ont of the pages Tommy gave me a link to and it explained what all these acronyms mean, I was getting confused as I read some of the posts and this page of definitions was helpful. Here is a lot of great information and I can see that I have a lot to learn, but it’s fun. So I can see that you are probably right about the allure.

Welcome to the forum! That’s one thought, but there are a lot of fun things to do related to chipping that might change your mind:

Chips, cards, tables, margarita-making, scotch, custom sets, breakdowns, hot dog rollers, strategy, stories, online tournaments, in-person meetups with forum friends, helpful advice in non-poker areas, chip group buys, etc.

welcome to the forum. good luck trying to stay disconnected after your purchase. it will probably be harder than you think!

Welcome! Curious what types of chips you are interested in. If you’d like any advice, feel free to post and you’ll get much of it. Enjoy the hunt!

How many times has this been said by new folk!!! :ROFLMAO::LOL: :D:p
Ha! I can see t
I too came to this forum to purchase 1 set of chips...... a year later and 15000 chips later I still am visiting this forum every day......
wow, that’s amazing but I can certainly see how that can happen. I have a very small collection of clay casinochips that I started over a decade ago when I took home 10 $1 blue Bellagio chips from one of my trips to Las Vegas. I have about 7 sets of 10 $1 chips from the various casinos on the strip that I have visited. These chips are so much better than what me and my friends use in our game that I can totally understand the “allure” as Eloe2000 put it of these chips, so I’ll see where this leads. Thanks much for your reply, lots of friendly folks on this site, you’re certainly one of them.

Thanks for your reply, I can see that it’s like being a kid in a candy store, as soon as you see one chip set you like there is another that catches your eye That you like just as well, I don’t know how people choose between them, amazing how many great real clay-chips come up on this site, it really is the only place to look. Thanks for your offer to help me out, I will keep that kind offer in mind.

Hello and welcome!

It is not difficult to get 10 meaningful posts - you can do it in an incredibly short amount of time. There are always design and mockup threads by people who are submitting their art for general review and comment - you need no expertise to be able to state your opinion on how you think something looks. There are serious threads, funny threads, analytical threads, picture threads, all sorts for the casual and more dedicated enthusiasts. Even sections not devoted to poker at all. Participate, and have fun!

Welcome. What set are you looking to buy?
I have a old sample set of Paulson Pharaoh’s that I bought some years ago, I’ll post a picture. I thought to look for a full set of these but after liking through the site I can see that there are many comparable sets of Paulson chips available. So I suspect that a decent set of Paulson chips may be what I end up with, but certainly if I see any of these chips come up and I am eligible and first in line I will try to buy them. In hindsight I should have bought a set when I had the chance all those years ago.

Thanks much, I have noticed that there are some threads that are way out of my league! I can’t even follow what is being discussed, so I have come to be aware that I really know very little about this subject and that there is a tremendous amount that someone can learn. So I am great full for the simpler threads that you mentioned, those will no doubt be what I read first, gradually I may try to decipher some os the other more complex threads. Thanks for your post I appreciate your helping me out.

I’m already dis over if this to be true, too many pleasant and knowledgeable people on this site. I am a total neophyte here so hopefully someday I can help someone the same way you are taking your time to assist me. Much appreciated.

Welcome! You might be surprised. The allure to stat is stronger than you may initially think.
New member: I’m just here to buy a set of inexpensive chips for my home game.

Same member 2 years and 17,000 posts later: How much square footage do I need to add on to my house store 250,000 chips?

:D

Welcome!

The next thing you’ll say is, “Now that I have these new chips, I’m all set!”
Don’t trust that feeling.

Welcome to the group! Joining here is your first step into the abyss.
HA! Yes I can see that probability growing as I look at this site. It really is an amazing site when you think about it, poker is such a fun way to spend time with your friends and this site add to that fun, I’m going to share it with my friends, well all go down the Abyss together

Welcome!
Amazing story, but not surprising based on what I have seen so far, I don’t think you are an anomaly at all after some of the interesting posts I have read. I. think a good percentage of the fun of playing is the tactile experience of moving chips around the table, with the inexpensive plastic chips it just doesn’t feel, look, or sounds the same. So I can easily see how having a number of great sets to rotate through your games is like wearing different clothes to different events, it’s a bit part of the experience.

Since I love scrabble I appreciate the creativity of your post quite a bit, gave me a laugh, I’ll have to remind you that we can Use that word in a game if someone first plays add and you then add in iction would be a good score if you hit the triple word score! Anyway thanks for the post, it’s helpful and appreciated.

Welcome!

New member. 18 months ago just looking to decide between China clays. 18 months later casually looking for a new house with wife. Unprompted wife: “These closets would be great for your poker chips and this spare bedroom is on the other side of the house and would be good for a poker room so I don’t have to hear you guys playing poker with your poker chips.”

Welcome! Nice introducing yourself.
Pleased to meet you :)
Thanks much for your reply, everyone is very welcoming which is nice. Pleased to meet you as well.

Welcome to the forum. Come for the chips, stay for the shenanigans!!
Yes it is like a bait and switch isn’t it, someone looking for chips and ends up staying for life. I can easily see how that can happen. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

I think my reply may have gotten cut off to you, if so my mistake didn’t mean to be short, thanks much for your help.

Sorry if I missed anyone in my replies, I must admit that I am not too skilled at keeping track of who I have replied to and who I have not replied to. So I decided to post a picture of some of the chips I have just for fun really, thanks to you all for your kind welcoming approach to those of us who are new to your site. Obviously a neophyte when it comes to collecting but everyone has to start somewhere. Thanks again for all of your replies to my intro thread.

Thanks much for the reply, I noticed that you have one of the Nevada Jacks chips as your picture. I like those chips too, here is a picture of my sample set. Again, thanks for the reply, it’s appreciated.

A nice set of Pharaoh's was what got me in the door years ago. 100k chips later and I'm still at it. Lol. Welcome and enjoy the ride.

I too came to this forum to purchase 1 set of chips...... a year later and 15000 chips later I still am visiting this forum every day......
And just so u understand the extent of this addiction, I get more packages than my wife, I send out more packages than her, I have way more nail polish remover than her, my non chipping friends are 100 percent sick of me talking about chips, I spend way too much time removing inlays, and today my wife caught me trying to stick chips in the oven (when I tried to explain she just gave me the hand and walked out of the kitchen). Now u have a full picture of what is in store for you.......

I’m enjoying it very much today, everyone has been so welcoming which as a bit of a surprise. Learning a lot too, frankly amazing how much there is to learn. Wow you are obviously an expert and I can only imaging how your friends must love playing poker with you and getting to use your various sets. Must be a fun and note resting experience. Thanks again.
