I've said it before. I wish I wouldn't have to say it again, but If you are ever thinking about customs, do it. DO IT NOW.
Vendors disappear. Some die, some retire. The barrier to entry is extremely high, and even with the equipment there is a large and expensive learning curve for a new vendor. At least two vendors bought equipment, only to determine they lacked the ability to produce chips on the equipment (though Red never admitted his extreme failures).
A fire, a natural disaster, another retirement, or an unfortunate death and that avenue dries up.
Either you want customs, or you don't. People that bought customs from a reputable vendor don't regret their purchase. Those that want customs but don't buy eventually regret it.
