So I have a pretty successful weekly cash game. I'm thinking of adding a "show'em" chip to the game as everyone seems to like that idea when I first floated it. Have you guys ever incorporated bounties into cash games? Or anything else?

Looking for excuses to buy more chips for my cash game rather than invest in a Tournament set.

A new thought I just had was - you could do something weird like a winning hand chip. In every hand toss in one chip into the pot and people can actually see how many hands are played and how many they won in the session. It might incite more action as people try to win hands and gather these markers as bragging rights. Or to win a small bonus prize. Though cash out profit is obviously the ultimate bragging rights.

  • We use our seating chip as a show em chip
  • high hand either as an initial buy in for a set amount or for a big blind sized rake per hand
  • bomb pot every half/hour
  • If you win with 2-7 everyone owes you a set amount ~5x BB

We rock the 72 rule as well. it's a big blind from everyone, I may increase that to 2x big blind

We do 4x—5x ($1pp at .25/.25 or $5pp at $1/$1) so that people really chase that win down. I have spent a lot of money trying to win a couple bucks with 2-7, but it’s a point of pride and bragging rights above and beyond the money. This is the only one of the above that I mentioned that has been a permanent rule in our game.

Things to add:
- High hand bonus: either take from pots or have everyone pitch in 5BB or something
- 7-2 game
- Button game: dealer puts BB on dealer button, if dealer wins he takes it down, else it passes with button and next person adds to it
- Bomb pots
- Kill or half-kill

My crew hated the 7-2 rule when we tried it for a night.

Bomb pots every 30-60 minutes are overkill, IMO. We do a bomb pot for the last hand of the night, and the first person to win a hand with a full house or more get a "bomb pot" chip that they can deploy at any time during the rest of the game. Helps to break up a nitty game.

Here’s a rule I use in my cash games.
ACE on the board: Any time any ace(s) is on the community board (flop, turn, and/or river), there will be a mandatory straddle(s) on the next hand. I.e. if there is 1 Ace on the board - single straddle, 2 Aces on the board - double straddle, etc.

Splash pot: every hand that gets to a flop you take out 1bb and set aside. Once you have 20bb the very next hand is a splash pot. Tried this last time and my group loved it.

Next I want to try a bad beat jackpot. Anyone done it in a home game?

For high hand is it just paid out at the end of the night to the highest hand? Simple as that?

I was debating pulling 1BB every flop and using it for "High Hand of the Night". Anybody else try this?

We've done the high hand one before. Worked well.

Lots of good ideas here. I'm going to incorporate a "Bounty" chip for our cash game. It's unconventional, but of your $25 buy in, $5 goes to whomever busts you. It'll go for all subsequent buy ins. I floated it by our group and they love it. Fun way to have bounties without tourney's. Also incorporated a "show'em" chip. Everyone gets one and they can use it after any hand. Victim of show'em chips get to use them again.

Can't people just top off before they bust?

Kinda weird imo. Its basically just the equivalent of them having an extra $5 in their stack.

Yeah, I think I’ll come up with something else. Like if you bust a guy you get X or he/she has to do X

Incorporate a small blind bounty. Take a predetermined amount out of each pot once it gets to X amount. In order to win the bounty you have to win a hand, with any cards, from the small blind.

We’ve never tried it but I like the idea of it. The 7-2 game and the SB bounty together seem like they could be fun to me.

Only 7/2 in our game so far. Typically people who complain about it can't stop grinning and yapping about winning with 7/2 though. People generally like it.

I think I'm going to try a show'em card and a regular bomb-pot. Maybe every 60 or 90 minutes, if we need more action.

I have a high hand promotion that is the same way pretty much. It is a $1/2 game and we pull $2 from each pot that hits $30. It gets paid at midnight and usually is right around $200.

The thing about high hand jackpot is that whoever wins it has already pulled a pot... It makes the rich richer (unless that winner spewed everything away).

I think a bad beat jackpot at least gives someone who lost a big hand a little something back. A bad beat jackpot might be better suited for multiple multu-sessions, however, rather than a single night.

A bad beat jackpot is good if you can seriously build it up - the high hand jackpot is your one night wonder. Besides, you would be surprised how often the high hand jackpot pays to a person who only won one pot.

For small home games what do you guys usually use for a BBJ? It’s not a casino where hundreds of thousands of hands are played.

any quads beaten? Aces full beaten?

If I can get a game going this FRI. I plan on using the above "Treat Yo Self" in two different ways (players option). You can either "Treat Yo Self" to see someones cards when the hand is over. Or you can use it to "Treat Yo Self" to one hand of Double Board PLO (were playing a fixed game rotation on FRI, HOPE).

I won't allow any player to have to expose his cards more than twice in an entire evening.
