Best Day of the week to host cash game (1 Viewer)

Hey Folks,

I’m thinking of hosting a regular cash game with some of my friends - the dream is to have a regular game every two weeks for years.

What day of the week do you guys think works well? I was thinking Sundays but most people leave those for chores and relaxing.

I've settled on Saturday, but we're a bunch of 9-5 types with kids mostly. Saturday let's us start early and go late with the most consistent attendance. We can start in the afternoon and go until sunrise because no one worked that morning and no one has to go to work the following day. We usually go 10+ hours. But only once every 6 weeks or so.

Weeknights could work but it'd be much spottier attendance and much shorter sessions. Even if we could do it every week I think I'd rather have one big game a month vs four small games every week.

Of course in a perfect world I'd do both but my wife would probably kill me before it even got off the ground

There isn't a best night. It's whatever night gets you and your crew the most regular attendance.

My group Saturday with enough advanced notice worked the best. That was 10 years ago. Now most of the group has no kids at home, so we can pretty much get a game going on demand.

I 2nd this emotion.

I picked up Wednesday night hosting when another host stopped hosting and those players needed a new place to play.

I’ve been able to host 2 tables on Wednesday night. I have players that regularly play at the local casinos that are happy i’m hosting because it’s a better environment and no rake.

I generally do Fridays. Kind of a compromise. Not a lot of night owls so people don't like to do nights when there's work the next day. People want to be able to keep their weekends open too, so Saturday/Sunday is out.

I do my night games on Friday night for my players that still work.
I do an afternoon session game either on Wednesday or Thursday for the retired guys.

. . . But seriously, whatever night gets the players there. Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday in no particular order work with us.

We play on Fridays. Most of our players like it because it gives them the rest of the weekend. If not Fridays, I'd go with Sunday afternoons.

Depends a lot on the players and other games close to your location.
We have someone that runs a Tuesday game, another that runs a Wednesday Game. I selected Thursday and run a slightly different weeknight game than the others. I start at 7pm and have a hard stop at midnight. We finish the hand we are on, then do a bomb pot. I cash everyone out so all the 9-5 types are comfortable playing Thursday PM.

We have a couple games other folks host Sat and Sunday but only a few of the players cross over. A lot of the weeknight players have plans over weekend.

I prefer Saturday. Cash table starts at 5. Tournament starts at 8 with another cash table around midnight.

Then brunch Sunday. I’m starving….

I like to run a cash game in the afternoon on Saturdays followed by a quick 6-8 player tournament.

Thursday night is what works for me and most of my players. Everyone has a different conflict depending on the day and time of year. I work weekend nights, so Thursday night poker was started. I host once a month day depending on family schedule.

Thursday night for weekly, Saturday afternoon for monthly.

Thursday night works best for my gang. Saturday has too many other social or family conflicts. But weekdays do eliminate some people from playing too.
