99% of the time I play poker $1k is still the biggest chip I play. I guess 39mm>43mm all day every time is the more controversial take!

I agree it’s about how rare the chip is to get in play. For some it’s the 25, for others it’s the 100 or 500. Even works for tournaments where it’s a high value upper end chip you won’t see until a final table like a 25k or 100k. It’s not a controversial thing.
Being controversial is making a 43mm frac or 1 while your 5 and 25 goes back to 39mm lol

Sluggo bricks that shuffle well and have pressed in molds that come off the shelf from some discount poker store will always do in a pinch if one is looking for a set at $14 a rack.

Most people are way too condition-pilled.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not unhappy about minty sharp chips I own but I’ve had various worn sets in my collect for a while now and when they’re taken care of they can even be nicer than super sharp chips. They shuffle like butter and are much easier to move around a pot.
I can’t think of any reason that Booyah’s HP set, with Cali colors and shaped inlays isn’t selling at ~$4-5/chip given the prices NAGB chips demand other than people being too hesitant because of condition.
What’s important is height match within a set, but that’s not controversial

It's not condition overall for me. What would tilt me is if one denomination of chips is much sharper than the others in the set. If they're all the same condition, I have no qualms.

Yea gotta have a good playable breakdown. I also prefer similiar condition chips but sometimes it's unavoidable. Take for example the LCO set where most of the 1s and 5s are worn with the 5s being heavily worn. 25s and 100s are in much better condition. It would be a grail set for me if the 5s were closer to matching the 1s and 25s, but I don't think I could get over the vary stack heights.

I agree on condition. I can’t stand bike tires, but that HP set looks like the chips are perfectly worn for that legendary buttery feeling. Totally worth the money, if you have it.
But I don’t trust the fracs in that set - are they re-stamped?

To be fair, that was not considered a completed set for booyah and more of a work in progress project that was abandoned.

Fair. I’m personally okay making sacrifices to get good chips in play. At many of the games played by PCFwrs don’t even need a ton of $5s Lolol. And a $20 is easier to use as secondary workhouse to a $5 than a $25.

Won’t go any lower than my price. Only takes a few people to want a set like this and it goes to the moon.

It's easy for the banker when most meetup games are 0.25/0.50 stakes. People tend to top off/rebuy in increments of $20 or $100. If it's the latter, barrel of $5's, done, no sweat.
This is also why I like $20 chips if I can help it. Top off for $40 or $80? Done, here's 2 or 4 $20's. Can't do that with $25's.

I’m a dick about this stuff, obviously. But yes, they are restamped wonderfully. They look too good for the rest of the set.
After you use them a few times, the foil wears down considerably, but the chips themselves match in condition

Agree to disagree! Not a fan of the Kelley’s inlay. But the blue + arc combo is killer.
