Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (81 Viewers)

it does, but at 1/2 and 1/3 population dynamics rule the roost. You're not wrong, its not going to "fool" competent regs, but it helps paint a picture. Most players seem to assume your 3bets are much tighter and your cbets are scarier. Those edges help, these aren't players I see weekly these are mouthbreathers I will never see again. Even if it just nets me a bet here and there, nametag it is!

But that's just me, I suck at poker and don't play professionally so I lean into live-play goofiness. Lanyard also gives people something to ask/talk about other than politics or bad beat stories.
Maybe I just have a general distrust of people. I don't believe anything they are doing until I see some cards at showdown. Even then I need to see 1 or 2 more hands to really start to think yea that's how they play vs it being a show.

Clearly, $20s are nicer for games up to 1/3, mainly because they see more felt time at those stakes than the $25s would (chip fetishist approach).
From 2/5 and up, $25s are more efficient (anyway they 're more efficient when buying chips: more bank for your bucks).

Notice, however that the 1-5-20-100 progression is mirrored by the 5-25-100-500 progression when playing $5/10.
It can't be too wrong.

Y'all are forgetting a vital piece of the puzzle with regard to $20s. Many are fucking hot so just felt them who gives a shit.

I can read a chip w/ a denomination on it just fine. Sure, the $25 is better in a practical sense but it's not going to stop me from using fire $20s.

Dibs Adolfo's

A green $20 is the worst of all $20s in terms of getting them in play without confusion. Maybe ok if it’s the main set used each game but as a once in a while set it’ll lead to confusion.

It a hot chip though. They just printed the wrong denomination on the label.
There's definitely something to that. But I think the biggest reason for confusion, or lack of intuitiveness or just plain annoyance by my players is because they've been playing with $25s all their lives.
Why is it that PCF loves the $20 chip so much, but has little use for the $10 chip or the $50 chip? I mean, American currency includes ten dollar bills and fifty dollar bills. Two dollar bills too. Lets get all those horseshoe Cincy $2s on the tables!

Yup! My players have played in casinos quite a bit so anything of a non-standard color can be a land mine. Green = $25 to them. I had a cali cash set once where the $100 was a standard size white chip. Yea that lead to a pretty big raise a couple of times lol.

Yes we are drinking during our games.

Purely my opinons :) I don't expect everyone else to agree with them by any means.

But the green $20 Adolfo's is just a chip which didn't get to live up to it's full potential. It's a set that runs well with a bunch of chippers or players that are more aware of different color denoms. Just doesn't run well with my group.

How many tooth fairies have accidentally given a $100 instead of a $10? I'm definitely not asking this because I have first hand experience..

 that's a much more respectable opinion than "uh buh they help me count good" which is the first comment in every thread on the topic.

I mean just have both lol
Well, after viewing all the 20’s, and getting some feedback from my players, I will probably have a few barrels of the 20’s made and then use the 25’s for the bigger game. Since I am the only player in both games, working with both chips won’t be difficult for any of the players.

Really, it all boils down to the noble cause of buying more chips — which, let’s be honest, is the entire reason any of us are here. I briefly flirted with the idea of fiscal responsibility… then quickly came to my senses. I mean, why just buy what you need when you can spend more on chips.

Ah yes, going through the experience of overconsumption and justification. Feels like home on the Poker Chip Forum.

It's not over consumption if you use them all. ;)
