Hi everyone,

Question on my mind relating to when to perform color ups.

Using T100-T500-T1000 chips at this point.

Sample Structure

800-1600
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
3000-6000

No other levels require T500 chips.

When do you color up T100 & T500?

a) T100 after 800-1600, T500 after 1500-3000
b) T100 and T500 both after 1500-3000
c) something else

Yes, I am aware there is a pretty good argument for using T2000 instead of T1000, the answer in this case is obvious since the color ups wouldn't be as close.

But since the T500-T1000 progression is still common, wonderinng if you do the color ups togetther or separately.

Depends on when the normal breaks are scheduled.

And in many cases, there are so few T500s in play that they can get sold to the big stack (after the 1500/3000 level), and subsequently removed from play without requiring a dedicated color-up break.

I pull the T100s at first opportunity.

I use a careful balance between the chips no longer being needed, and evenly spacing the breaks. Like BG pointed out, the number of T500s may be largely irrelevant, and will not slow down gameplay much (if at all).

I toyed with the idea once of blinding off 2 colors at the same time, but in the end decided it was more hassle than it was worth, so I left the T500s on the table for an extra hour, despite the fact that all blinds at that point were even thousands. It was fine, and I suspect most players didn't even notice that they weren't touching the T500s in their stack unless counting for fo a possible all-in.

Thanks for the responses so far.

It seems no matter which structure is in use there's usually only two levels between the first opportunity to color up T100 and T500.

I like the idea of just doing the color up of the even chips at the first opportunity but leaving the odds to avoid an extra break right after removing T1000. Leaving the odds at this point probably doesn't matter a lot the more you have me think about it.

We Always do color up at the break. But our dealers keep stacks of higher denominations and color up the pots as we go when needed.

Right, the issue is whether to schedule breaks 2 levels apart when dealing with removing T100 and T5000 in structures that use T500 and T1000 chips.

I can see where dealers changing pots helps by the end though.
