Hello, I hope this finds you all well!

Sorry to bother you specifically @BGinGA but you're literally the tournament God and I would love your opinion on this. I bought a tourney set that's T25 base with the breakdown of:

T25-120 - 3k
T100-120 - 12k
T500-80 - 40k
T1000-120 - 120k
T5000-60 - 300k

Because I didn't know what I was doing.

My current thought process is T20K being 16/16/8/9/1 and for T10K I'd use what my research says is the recommended T10K Standard of 12/12/5/6. Also considered 16/16/8/4 because it seems fun and makes games last longer maybe. Rebuys either 2 5k or 5 1k 1 5k for T10k, 3 5k 5 1k or 4 5k for T20k.

For my 7 person T10k with unlimited rebuys and 20min blind levels I'm thinking:

1 25 50
2 50 100
3 75 150
4 100 200
5 150 300
Break/T25 color up
6 200 400
7 300 600
8 500 1000
9 800 1600
Color up t100//end rebuy
10 1500 3000
11 2000 4000
12 3000 6000
Color up t500
13 5000 10000
14 7000 14000
Color up t1000
15 10000 20000
16 15000 30000

I also considered ending rebuys at first break but want the game to be a lil longer/have more money in.

My friends want a 4-5 hour game though so I'm not sure.

I'm sure my breakdowns and levels are really awful so please advise lol. This is WAY harder than running a cash game.

Thank you all very much for your time, and have a wonderful day!

If your game isn’t running fast enough for your players, you can always implement a big blind ante later in the tourney. This could create a shove-fest at later levels, but it’ll encourage a quicker end to the night if people start to get restless.

Replace L8 (500/100) with L8 (400/800).
Add new L8a (600/1200)
Add new L9a (1000/2000).
Similarly:
Replace L13 (5k/10k) with L13 (4k/8k).
Replace L14 (7k/14k) with L14 (6k/12k).
Add new L14a (8k/16k).

7 players @10k stacks with 20-minute levels will typically finish no later than the 200/4000 level, so about 4:20 plus breaks if using the above changes.

You can end re-buys whenever you like, but at L5 150/300 blinds, a 10k re-buy stack is only 33BB. Doesn't make much sense to offer (or purchase) one after L5.

Thank you so much for your advice!!!! I am 1,000,000% doing this. We just finished the tournament, ran alright but felt a little fast near the end, once we hit maybe 500/1k as is. I like your ideas much better and have implemented them for next time. Thank you!

Out of curiosity, would you prefer a different stack size/structure with my bank, or is T10k the sweet spot? Also, my group is fine spending up to $100-ish every home game so if we can cater to that im down.. Think we ended up having $300 in the pot after this game but moar is sometimes better, haha.. Should re-buys maybe get 15k or 20k? or make it flat blinds at 50bb?

With 25/50 starting blinds, 10k starting stacks contain 200 big blinds -- which is plenty deep imo. Adding a 25/75 level would also prolong that deepstack feel early-on before blinds start getting larger (relevant to stack sizes). I see no real need to increase to 15k or 20k in your situation.

Something that has worked for me is having your break, color up, and end of rebuys all at the same time. A good time for you would be after level 6 which is the 2 hour mark. Later than that is too late to rebuy in terms of blind size. You mentioned more is better so you can also offer an add on at this point. Another 10k for a full buy in. Remind everyone when they come back from break that rebuys are over. The loose fun feel of the game should get slightly more serious.

So your blinds could be 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400. Color up 25s. Something I do at this point is drop from 20 minute to 15 minute blinds for a couple reasons. One is that people start to get eliminated so you get more hands in anyway. 2nd is you have less people trying to see cheap flops so you get more hands in that way too. And 3rd it lets you keep a steady blind structure without the game going 6+ hours. My group also likes around a 4 hour game. So for me the next 2 hours could be 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, 800/1600, 1000/2000, 1500/3000, 2000/4000. Remove your 100s and 500s if you feel like it. The game should be close to coming to an end. 3/6, 4/8, 5/10, 6/12 etc until it’s over

Depending on your crowd and their patience for a tournament vs cash game post tourney or just overall attention span....a t25 with a 5k starting stack would give those same folks the chance to rebuy a few times within your chip breakdown. A 20k m, t25 base tourney can be a grueling affair. I'd happily play a 20k but only as a freeze out no rebuy 1 table only game. Anything bigger or with lots of new players and I go smaller stacks, more rebuys.
