The only flaw I can see with the Dunes is the color of the 25 which is quite similar with the 5000 one. Hopefully edge spots are there to avoid any confusion.
Yes. Long live 5 denom starting stacks! Let's play DEEP!!
Long-term, it's the cheapest solution.
I have to say I'm impressed so far not only with the amount of collective poker chip knowledge on this forum, but also how people are already seeming to look out for me as a newbie and make such good recommendations. Thanks!
On the quality of the china clays, from some of the samples I've already gotten I've noticed that the labels are pretty well done so far (centered well and I like the texture more than I thought I would). Anybody have experience with how the labels hold up over time? I'm aware I may receive some that aren't as well done as the samples, but for those that are good out of the box I'm curious if people have seen labels come off over time or any other issues.
I play poker but I have the additional need for chips for economic board games that we play weekly. Specifically we play some 18xx games which everyone in the 18xx community agrees should use 20s instead of 25s because a lot of the purchases in the game are for 20 or 40 depending on the game.
So I find myself wanting to buy a set of 400 to 500 chips that will accommodate poker as well as board games.
I just got my sample of the majestics from apache, and coming from the 11.5 dice chips, i have to say I can tell the weight difference. The Majestics just feel wimpy. It may be adjustment what do you guy think? I also am not sure about the brightness /colorless of the chips. I have washed them but they are still drab. I know I can oil them and I will try that. But I feel disappointed with them so far. I really want my chips to POP! any recommendations on the most colorful chips?
Good advice here.Just be aware that there are a lot of people that bought brand new Paulsons for sub $2 apiece and now sell them for $6+ apiece
Regularly because of “market demand“.
A lot of these people will say you need to buy Paulsons immediately, and I think there may be an ulterior motive involved but I’m not sure.
Move at your own pace and buy what YOU like. The only way to find out what you like is to start buying samples, sets, or barrels, whatever makes you feel comfortable, and whatever fits your budget.
If you don’t want to put in that time, then you’d be better off just sending your money to someone you trust here and asking them to buy you a nice set.

Totally agree, mineral oil will make them pop. Don’t worry about the weight, you are now closer to the real casino weight than you were with dice chips.Give it a few for adjustment, especially with you coming from heavier dice chips.
Majestics will "pop" after some light mineral oiling and you'll immediately see the difference. Exhibit A from @JMC9389's set that he posted last year: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/majestic-cc-pron.45108/

If you're used to 11.5 chips, then the chips in the 8-10 range are going to feel off. If you switch, you'll get used to the lighter chips pretty quickly. Most people on this forum prefer the chips that are in the lighter range (for many reasons, not just their weight) but that doesn't matter; what matters is what you like.
If it helps you with your decision, consider that most casinos use chips that are about 9-10 grams. Chips with metal slugs in them like the dice chips are often marketed as "casino weight" but that's only in the sense that supermarket plastic interlocking chips are about 2 grams and both casino and dice chips are much, much heavier than that. There is no "official" casino chip weight, but dice chips are moderately heavier than what casinos generally use.
My standard comeback is, "Most real casino chips weigh around 10g max. Most plastic toy chips are heavier."“ehh, it’s a little light I think.”
I wonder why most on this forum prefer the 9-10 grams?
