hi all,

Thought I'd check in, since I bet no one has done that before. And also, since I've been awol a while.

In October I got really sick. By thanksgiving it was really bad and I checked in to the hospital. I had pain in every joint and muscle in my body, pneumonia symptoms, and could only manage eating about 400 calories/day without having more severe symptoms. I was in so much pain I could barely walk, and needed help from both my parents to get out of bed.

In the hospital, where I spent 12 days, they tested me for all the big scary diseases and infections. My bone marrow biopsy was the highlight of my time there.

The only thing they discovered was my pneumonia (which has been treated)

I got out of the hospital right before my birthday (dev 19), and moved in with my parents as I need help with daily living tasks. (I can't drive for example).

Since I've been out I've been recovering slowly but steadily. My digestion is getting better, I've stopped losing weight (I've lost 70+ pounds since October) and the slow increase in food intake seems to be making me stronger. I'm on disability leave from work, but hope to start back up in a couple weeks now that my energy is returning and my brain is starting to work.

To make things worse, before all this started I had frozen shoulder on both sides from rotator cuff tears from a jet skiing incident.

All the testing in the hospital was negative except the one for pneumonia, which is not the cause of all these symptoms.

So at this point, I remain anemic, which makes me tired and keeps my mental energy down, have only joint pain in my hands, am up to about 1200-1500 calories/day, still have the frozen shoulder, and have pain when sitting from the site of the biopsy. All this seems like a lot, but compared to where I was in November, I feel almost healed.

I've gone from round the clock narcotics to 2 Tylenol/day for pain.

Not sure if I'll be well enough to endure the BBotB or not, but today I've eaten more than any day previous, and had no ill effects. The food really seems to accelerate the healing as you might guess, so I remain hopeful.

Anyway, some of the local PCFrs were in the loop on this, but I was just too low energy to tell the story. I don't have a computer, just my phone, and I hate forum browsing on the phone. Despite this, a couple people had been curious about my issues, and since I live my life publicly, I thought I'd check in.

Also, for those waiting on chip sample sets, they will be coming when I move back home.

Glad to know you're getting better Rob... I hope u get to 100% really soon... Keep taking care of yourself man!

So sorry to hear this Rob. It sounds like you're going in the right direction now....stay the course.
I hope every day is better than the last and that soon this will just be a bad memory for you.

Stay strong my friend, sending good thoughts.

I see you are still buying chips. (y) Glad you are feeling better man!

Chicken,

What an ordeal! Thanks for the update, and very glad to hear you're improving. Keep it up, and hope to see you in March!

Rob,
Sorry to hear of your illness. Chipping is secondary when it comes to your health. Keep making strides to get better. PCF is pulling for you.

Sorry to hear your situation Rob. Great to hear from you though man, here hoping things continue to steadily improve!

I was literally just thinking yesterday that I haven't seen any posts from Chicken Rob in a while. Sorry for the illness, but glad to read you are doing better. Keep it up!

Rob,
Glad to hear you are "OK". I have almost posted in the BBotB twice since New Years asking if something was wrong, but thought the better of it thinking it was none of my business. It always gets me wondering/worrying about PCF members who are very active in the forums and then suddenly go silent without any notice....it has happened several times here. Not that it is any of my business and I don't expect you take me up on it but, if you have any questions about things you can shoot me a PM.....I am a DC, my wife and brother are MDs, and my mother is an RN at a medical clinic for over 25 yrs, I don't mind bouncing questions at them or my colleagues. It's great the you are finally in a position to get back on here, I think that speaks volumes in itself. Stay the course.

Hey Rob,

Sorry to hear of the recent illness but glad you're on the mend. As someone who had a pretty major health scare myself late last year, I certainly empathize with how you've been feeling.

Sending plenty of positive run good thoughts from down under.

Brett.

I suspected something was up but not to this degree. I'm happy to hear that you're on the road to recovery and making good progress. Hope you make a straight flush in health.

Hope you feel better and they figure it out. I had severe pain for years, I persisted and went to over 15 doctors and specialists before I found someone who figured it all out. Each doctor was looking at each symptom separately. When one finally looked at all of the issues as a whole a light bulb went off and they got me feeling better. 2 years ago I couldn't walk 10 feet, now I can run around with my kid most of the day. Keep on the doctors until they finally get it.

I have a pretty broad team of doctors working on this but have been making my biggest strides with my naturopath. Except for the antibiotics for the pneumonia, the MDs have offered nothing but opiates so far. Treating with nutrition (and maybe my acupuncturist) seems to be where all the healing is coming from.

Also, the naturopath and acupuncturist are the only ones looking at the whole of the issue rather than the narrow focus of symptoms within their specialty.

I'm grateful to the specialists as they were able to check for and rule out the big scary diseases, but they have offered little in the way of treatments.

Hey Rob, sorry to hear about what you've been going through, but I'm glad you're feeling at least somewhat better than you were. While I would love to see you at BBotB, don't push it if you aren't ready. There will always be other meat-ups. I really am glad to hear that you're on the mend.

Health is something that is so easily taken for granted when it is good, hearing stories like this reminds me of how fortunate I am. To be sick is bad enough, to not know why it's happening has to be equal parts scary and frustrating. Good luck man, glad you're feeling better (even if it's just a little), all the chips will still be here when you get back!

Rob, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear about how awful things have been. I hope they get this figured it for you and your health takes a turn for the better.

We were just talking at the Suicide Queen Melee about how we hadn't seen you on the forums for awhile. So glad to have you back, sorry to hear about this crap you're dealing with. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!
