I've been working on research for a poker sets and odds are I am gonna end up with some metal slug abs chips. Yes I know rhey sre the devil/garbage etc. Still I want to try and have an idea what I am buying and wether it is even worth getting certain samples.

I noticed both casino4you and the poker store have options in the stakes and varaity i like in Monte carlos. I would like to do some mixing snd matching of the colors offered. However I am concerned that there may be a difference in quality between the two.

The poker store markets them as smooths, and reviews i've seen is that they have smoother edges and thus slightly better than other abs chips. The ones you pick up on amazon end up rougher edged for example.

Anyone know if the chips at casino4you are alao smoothed?

I was happy with the poker store smooth M.C. Chips. That is until I found this site and realized there were better chips out there than ABS. But do what you can afford.
No experience with the Casino4you.

FYI - The poker store owner will correct mistakes and take care of you. You won’t be forgotten once you make your purchase.

Have had good experience with Poker Store before as well. Might sell my Monte Carlos in like a month if my group likes the Tinas I got.

It’s kind of nuts, we bash slugged abs chips but yet some covet coin in center chips which seem to be about the same thing, or metal insert Paulsons that have slugs in the very middle which are exposed as well. I say let each person decide what is right for them and if anyone here can answer a newbie’s questions on this type of chip do so without belittling them or the product they can afford.

Agree. Not everyone can afford to spend $1+ or more per chip. The ABS have their place. I still use my sluggo M.C. Chips even though I have Paulsons.

I think there are just different versions. The “rough” ones were an early version and then they had “smooth” and “smoke” and maybe others. @Hobbyphilic did a couple of videos you can check out like this one

I liked the MCs I had (original version I believe). Would take them over the Tina chips I have played with.

There is a slight difference in the regular older version of Monte Carlos and the smooth version. I prefer the smooths myself. The edges are just a little less sharp. Which make them feel slightly better in my opinion. I also would choose to purchase from ThePokerStore.com over any other similar vendor out there. They have always been great to deal with! That being said, there are a ton of great low budget options on this site that pop up every now and then and won't cost you a ton more than the slugged chips. I highly recommend getting samples of everything you can so you can see for yourself what you like and don't like. Then you can make sure you pick up a set of chips that you won't regret purchasing.

Thanks for the advice.

So just to clarify does it seem casino4you probably has the older version of the set?

the smoother edges are probably what is going to make or break it for me with denom availibility and color variation playing in as well.

Overall, I like the look of the smoked version the best. However it doesn't have a nickel denom and I would lile to build out with a propwr nickel to accomodate a varaity of cash game levels.

I Like most of the coloration in the casino4you set better than the options in the pokerstore set. With the exeption of the $5 chips.

If both sets are sufficently smooth I might just mix and match them...

I suppose i'll just have to do what I already figured on and gwt a sample of both to compare side by side.

I am not sure which type the casino4you site sells. I would guess that they might be the originals but some of the colors look similar to the smooths from ThePokerStore.com. TPS doesn't even have the regulars listed on their site anymore. They just have the smooth and the smoked versions. I like dealing with ThePokerStore.com. I can't vouch for the other site. You are supporting an American small business from Texas I believe when you purchase from ThePokerStore.com. I would suggest getting samples and emailing the other site if you are unsure of what they are selling. I personally would support TPS.

Late to the party here but I wanted to chime in and thank you for considering us. Like many of the vendors here, we too are a small American business. We just happen to be from a little place called Las Vegas and we don't focus only on poker chips, but in all things casino.

Our MC designs are over 9 years old at this point. So I would call them original series. There are several variations in the wild these days and for the most part you can mix and match to make a set that works for you. If you haven't already, get some samples and feel them in your hand and see what they look like in real life. Any reputable supplier will have samples available so you know what you are dealing with before making a larger investment.

If we can answer any questions about these or any other items just reach out.

@Pliskin42, The Monte Carlos are a nice set of chips. The denominations are easy to distinguish, the chips are attractive and the colors are nice and bright. The only downside to the chips is that they are heavy. For this reason, I would strongly advise against ordering the chips as a travel set. Outside of that, I wouldn't hesitate pulling the trigger. Purchasing samples of the two versions is a good idea if it fits within your budget.

I attended a weekly home game for a couple of years in 2012 and13 in which a fellow cardpalyer had these chips. He hosted a two table NLHE tourney, followed by a $1/$2 NLHE cash game.
