Bicycle Tires: Has anyone tried to refurbish these chips? (1 Viewer)

As you can see by the last pic there is no noticeable size difference. But as mentioned some chip material is gone and a bike tire will never be a mint chip! But I think 99.9% of us can live with these results!! LOL!
Wow, the differences shown in pics #1 and #2 look like different chips all together. You’re getting some seemingly phenomenal results here @RivieraDanny. Nice work…Impressive!

Let's see what a shuffled stack looks like, alternating between old and refurbished.

Isn't there ever so slight difference in diameter of TRK's as well, like slightly larger than 39mm or do I have that backwards?

I’m glad I obsessed this the last couple days! Will perfect it even further. Thanks for the inspiration @liftapint and pointing me to this thread @ReallyGoodUsername !! Not sure this increases value of chips, I know you can’t even clean a coin and kill it’s value but man oh man they look so much nicer treated than the cleanest bike tires!!

If you do enough of these, bike tires will become more valuable because there will be less of them.
Imagine the wanted ads, "Looking for spotted THC, bike tires only".
Or other threads, "How do I get these mint chips in bike tire condition quickly?"
 :ROFLMAO:

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Actually though, fill your boots. I like the patina of a good bike tire chip, but that’s just me.

The results here are really impressive!

Bike tires have their place!! LOL!

Super impressive results, but makes me  to see history being re-written.

Disclaimer: bicycle tire fan.

This is a revolutionary concept.

These chips that began life in mint condition became absolutely trashed from day-in day-out casino use, and eventually they found their way into our hands. Now, for the mere cost of very modestly shrinking their diameter, we can restore them to very close to their original condition - clean, colorful, and (almost) sharp-edged. And since they're now in the hands of home-game hosts instead of casinos, they'll keep their newly-restored beautiful condition forever.

Numismatic purists would consider this sort of alteration sacrilege. But coin collectors have a very different aesthetic than we playable set maniacs. The way I see it, the chips were damaged by their use, and what we are doing here is healing them. If they must give up a bit of their size in the process, then that's merely part of the tragic consequences of having become damaged in the first place. But the fresh lathing repairs the damage, compensates for it as best as possible, and brings the chips back to their intended appearance so that they can resume their original function and return to their original purpose - as attractive and functional objects, art and utility hand in hand.
