My 2¢ on the issue:

Although"reneging" and "scamming" might have two different meanings, both actions can cause harm to the party on the short end of the stick, monetary or otherwise. And the "reneging" coupled with a parallel auction might be actually closer to a scam.

In my opinion, if proven, both should be worthy of banning, reneging and scamming that is. Just my opinion.

We buy and sell chips here daily, sometimes costing more than many brand new motorcycles, only on the promise of the parties. I think we should have super strict buying/selling rules to protect us all from any form of misconduct.

I am not speaking of this particular case specifically, as we only know one side of the story, although said side, and the fact there's total silence from the other for a loooong time, seems to indicate a pretty compelling case.

No one is getting banned over backing out of a promise to sell chips.

If there was some crime committed then absolutely. He was called out for it. Everyone will know that now and can choose if they want to deal with him or not.
