At a cash game, do alternates get priority to seat in before someone who busts out can rebuy?

Does the original attendee go to the back of the alternate list?

Hosting my first cash game. At this place theres only room for 6 to 7 ppl. Usually >40 ppl for my freeroll tournaments so there is a large pool of ppl to draw from.

My thought is only invite 6 to 7, but if they have a +1 then I have to be able to tell them about how alternates work.

Also is it rude for the host to "never bust out"?

(for me) I aim for 6 or 7 for my mixed cash games and can do 8 if needed but any wait list is only really active in the lead up to the day itself not on the day - ie I ensure everyone is going to turn up and if any have to dip out then I can fill from the list. Obviously emergencies/illness can happen but my players don't drop out at the last minute often and know that if they are flakey they're not going to get invited.

There's no +1 - it's you on the invite list, you don't get to bring someone with you.

Players have their seats for as long as they want them and it would certainly change the dynamic if a player knew that if they bust they may have to wait a while before get a seat again. I don't really have the space for groupies so mine is a players only with extremely rare exceptions. Nothing worse than one half of a newly loved up couple on the rail - spare me

I have once had the situation where I was full but someone who is very popular was visiting from out of town and fancied playing. We agreed that we would take it in turns to sit out 30mins so everyone could get a game. It wasn't needed in the end as one player had to leave early and another was a bit late so it all worked ok.

If I bust out I'm buying in again and the only time I would consider giving up my seat is if I've messed up on the numbers, forgot I invited someone for example, but that hasn't happened yet.

I could imagine a case where a player, knowing they would get bumped from the table for a new player if they bust, would change the game dynamic. Shorter stacks would tighten up more than the doors to Ft. Knox in the interest of still sitting at the table and having a chance to double up with a premium hand.

If you are playing poker and the rules make you give up your seat when you are out of chips then you are playing a tournament, not a cash game.
This. Let players who have sat down get a chance to get their money back, and if they bow out then bring someone else in. Otherwise it is awkward and might not look good for you as the host to have people just sitting around waiting to buy in. Could start a small circus game table for alternates, but who knows how many people would actually want to do that…
