Hellmuth sitting out of the 2025 WSOP ME (1 Viewer)

Fair enough. Each person gets to decide if they play or not.

But with record number of entrants, I'd say that's an indication the format is fine. Endurance is simply a facet of the tournament.

Yeah, seen that and Polk’s take on it:

I think he’s realized in the main he’s unlikely to go far vs the caliber in the field as well. Plus it’s Hellmuth so any opportunity to get some air time vs just quietly playing some other events, so he has to make a deal out of it.

Queue up the lemmings analogy….

Relatively speaking it’s a cheap bucket list item for millions of people. Several thousand check this one off every year, whether they play poker regularly or not. They would buy in if it was 10 minute blinds starting with 5000 in chips and blinds at 100/200/200 just to say they did.

Should be a slightly quieter event, then. I mean from a decibel level measured at the rail.
Yep. I used to think it was all an act for TV by Hellmuth, there’s maybe an element but a pretty unbearable character. Wonder if WSOP refused to pay or comp him this year and this is his way out so that it was his decision.

In this clip from about the 3:40 mark onwards I think I agree with DNegs and shows the desperation from Hellmuth for continued fame:

Him against the streamers was jaw-dropping bad, man. Just awful to be around, berating Botez who's new to poker but a chess champion (I think? Don't have all context), short stacking, being miserable.

That's always been his shtick, he hides behind "ultra-competitive" and uses that as an excuse to be an asshole.

It's had a spiraling domino effect. Just in, the Twin Cities Poker Tournament monthly home game run in MN that has been going since 2009 with 1st prize being an entry into the WSOP $1500 N/L buy-in tournament had some big drama. Nooker is dropping out after 16 years. The 11 games in 11 months schedule is just too much for Nooker to continue at his age.

Nooker's astonishing run of finishing in 1495th place out of 2605 players (just missing cashing by 1205) comes to an end. Nooker's last words to Nooker's crew, "Nooker is done with all you bum puppets."

I bet he stills plays. His ego is too big not to.
Unless the WSOP TD had an even bigger ego, he will be like fuck this shit and Ban Hellmuth from All WSOP 2025 events

I guess he finally got in terms with his ego....Good for him

I think he will play it in the end He is more likely to want to make a grand entrance this year topping anything else he has done in the past..

Think so too. Does like publicity so just getting himself attention.

I had heard that a group of pros are trying to make a more player-friendly alternative to the WSOP. I don't think Hellmuth will play the WSOP ME, if for no other reason than what he perceived as the shortcomings of the WSOP ME. I would also say to promote the new alternative tournament, but I would have heard more about it but now if it was a go for 2025.

That would be interesting to see what they could do if it were possible. I am not a pro but would not mind an alternative option to be honest.

I also saw (and I'll see if I can find the reference... pokernews I think) that they are going to change the rules this year where a player can't buy in partway into day two and sit with a full stack. This has been Hellmuth's M.O. for ages and I can see him wanting to not have to slog through a day one for a nine day Main Event....

OK, here it is:

Number one on their list. Not quite what I thought, so someone could still late reg, but no buying the seat well in advance and then showing late.

This year if I play I will buy in as late as possible day 2. Thanks for sharing!

Phil was on Daniel’s vlog while they were doing the fantasy draft, and he said he was playing the Main.

@luve

Here we go. He's playing. Even after a public vote to not play. But... he'll likely flop either way on playing or not before then. Can't help asking for attention.
