Argument as old as time. Moving poker to another room. Room is 10’x12’.

Contemplating the 72”x45” pub table or a 58” round. 8 max is usually my game. I feel compelled to go round, but it’s been years since I’ve played on one.

Which table would you rather sit at in the space?

Thinking maybe drink carts like this could still be used in the space this size

I like smaller oval ones for 8 people too. Depending on the shape of the available space/area, that might be a good option too.

Did not expect round to be taking the cake. Everywhere I read people are shitting on round tables lol

I vote round but is 58" too big, or are all the players really big?
Actually none of my regs are big dudes. But it's an 8 player game.

Considered 56". 60" seemed to large. So I split the difference.

58" gives 22.77" of space per player with 8.

My bad I did the maffs and it works out. I have a 42" chanaman and it was good to 6 with about 22" each.
I've enjoyed the recent pics of your home game on the round. Round just seems to foster a more social environment and great for self dealt games.

We've chatted already - but I build 2 round 56" tables for DiD and for my monthly cash games. They are outstanding. The social aspect of the game has changed dramatically. You can easily converse with anyone at the table as opposed to those on your immediate sides. Dealing errors have gone to zero. I typically seat 7, but go to 8 for tournaments. It's a little tight, but not unreasonable.

Pots and cards - yes, there is a bit of a reach for shorter players. But that's easily solved with two words. Card help or Chips help. No one has to stand, we simply push the pot or the cards that way.

I love my round tables.

I went through this when I switched rooms. I went with a pub table.
All things being equal, I would have preferred round - it’s just better for sight lines, self-dealing, and socialization. But all things aren’t equal. I also have an octagon that’s about 53 inches across, and raking a pot from a seated position can be challenging.
I can reach about 32 inches across a table, without standing. If you have a 58 inch table, where the center point is 29 inches, I’m not going to be able to reach chips that aren’t within 3 inches of the center of the table. So I don’t believe any average-sized person will be able to rake a pot from a seated position at a 58 inch circle.
Obviously, you have the same problem with people toward the ends of ovals. But at least in those situations, the dealer or other players can help push, without getting up. And one of the big reasons for a circle (or octagon) is bringing people closer together. So there just seems something fundamentally wrong with a design that’s supposed to bring everybody closer together, but doesn’t bring people quite close enough. I think went you can go a bit smaller, for 6 players, circles are perfect. But they just don’t seem right for 8.

The other thing is the shape of the room. With my slightly rectangular room, I was able to fit a pub table, and keep a minimum of 30 inches from wall to table. 30 inches is about the minimum for comfort (and many people would say 30 inches isn’t enough.) A circle just would have put peoples chairs too close to a couple of the walls, in my room. So for my room, a pub table just fit better than a circle.

As you said, topic as old as time...there was a great post on another version of the same topic of an oval that is a great compromise, that said I prefer round, not only cause of card play etc...but conceptually I prefer round as its more egalitarian. But the draw for a Vegas style table is easy to understand.

Is there anything else in the room, like a food table or fridge? Do guys get up a lot for drinks/snacks? You'll get about 5"-6" of extra room between the wall and the chair with the pub table on the "tight" sides to scoot on by. For a fat guy like me getting a bourbon every 20-30 minutes that would make a difference lol

Most people don't get rounds because they don't have the space to fit them. If you think this will work in your space, IMHO they do play better for a cash game, as long as folks don't mind helping to move chips in the pot - ie friendly game where folks don't mind others touching their awarded chips.

where's the door(s), windows, etc. located? Traffic flow?
Good points. The pub shape does seem to be most ideal in the room. At least 3'+ all around.

Door is in the corner there, but will stay open. Only other thing taking up space would possibly be a small corner bar.
