Hi! I'm new here and looking to understand what my first chip set should be! I know there's a bunch of fanatics here and lots to learn. Very excited! Thanks for having me. :)

P.S. I've been stalking the forum for a while and decided to join in on the fun. I see a bunch of awesome chips on the classifieds. It's probably trouble that I'm joining b/c I think I'm going to get sucked in!!

Welcome to the forum! Where in Maryland are you located?
We are from Finksburg MD! There are tons of awesome chippers and chip sets in the area! As well as some great home games to join in!!

Definitely hide your wallet, if you're anything like the rest of us you'll dive in head first and forget to come up for air! Cheers and good luck and your chipping journey, please reach out if you have any questions or just want to check out some chips!

Welcome @makemake78 , lots of collectors in the area... and rather than buying a ton of samples I suggest coming out for a game sometime and checking out others collections, it could save you a ton of money to be able to check out lots of different chips.

Wow, you all sure are friendly here! Way to make a girl feel welcomed! I live in Bethesda and play at MGM National Harbor and MD Live. Usually just 1/3. I also have a group of friends that like to play casual home games. I'm so happy there seems to be a lot of representation from the good ol' DMV!

Sometimes I don't mind getting sucked into things! I have an addictive personality and I'm okay with it. I'm fully ready. *diving in*

Welcome; I work in Bethesda, and @BirdCage is in the area as well. Lots of folks in DC and NoVa as well.

Wow, you took addictive to another level! :) I'm scared to see where I'll be in 18 months.

Well this got awkward... how was I supposed to guess @makemake78 was Female... lol. Sorry for the weird peach Reference... Ms. Brie and I are just goofs!

Definitely if you ever want to join a game or just check out chips... we have a few! Lol
Haha!! I honestly missed that peach reference but now that you brought it up I went back. LOL. No worries!! Very used to being one of the few girls when I have a hobby such as poker.

Skipping the lower end stuff and going straight for Paulsons. Very smart indeed!

When I joined we were strictly tourney players but yet I fell in love with the Aces Casino and Sports bar $3 chip. @FordPickup92 found and bought my first two racks off eBay and the rest is history! Lol

There is something special about your first "real" set of chips! I hope it satisfies the hunger, but that one is very difficult! If you find yourself hunting more... well then welcome to the club! Haha

Congratulations on your first build!

Fellow chipper Ben

Well that all depends...

How does your husband feel about collecting poker chips? If he starts to love them too... well... good luck!

Haha
He was actually the one that got me into poker. I used to be content playing blackjack and slots at the casino but he would head straight to poker. I would watch him play from time to time. Then we started playing poker with friends casually and I moved onto playing 1/3 at mgm National harbor when it opened up. Now I play poker more than him. Hahah!! But he said he would make me a custom poker table…we’ll see how long that takes to come to fruition. He’s pretty handy but it’s just getting him to actually start the project.

I love the clean look of JACK casino chips. Nice set!!

The big ones you mean?

Oiling the whole set right now, a few need to be flattened but it has always been my dream to own a larger set of Paulsons. We will have to make custom plaques to really make it playable which will cost a couple thousand dollars... probably going to be a while but would love to have this one built in 2022.

Our buddy @seeking down in Fredricksburg VA has an oversized set and it is absolutely a blast to play and soo different from the normal 39mm chips we are all used to! Ours are all 48mm but his are spotted and go up to 50mm monsters!

Definitely no where near as cool, but not many options when it comes to oversized chips so we are pretty excited about the Jack's!

Can't wait to see what you guys wind up with for your first sets!

Welcome to the Asylum! It's a fun and addictive hobby. You may hear some people say skip the cheaper sets and just get one or two really nice sets of chips. I heard that advice when I was new, thought I was going to contain myself to a really small budget, and I disregarded it. BIG MISTAKE! I now have NINE playable sets, a couple that are in the assembly stage still, and hundreds of samples plus racks of other "interesting" chips that are not yet part of a set. But all of them looked at individually were relatively inexpensive. For the combined money I've spent I could have bought two KILLER sets. Oh well, live and learn.

Also, be sure before your husband builds that table, you look for some of the table build threads on here. Even if he knows how to build stuff, he can learn a lot from those here who have built tables, and made some mistakes while doing so. He'll pick up a ton of valuable tips and tricks.
