My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (31 Viewers)

I would only be making a calculated guess here, but I would think that Vegas would be the best location for a poker pro. Lots of tourists bringing in a ton of fish money. Also more venues to choose from. From the perspective of a business investor, I am reluctant to invest in a company that gets the lion's share of their profit from a single source, so to carry that logic into the poker pro world, A pro's income is safer if they multiple casinos to work out of, just in case they get banned, there's a fire, a better player shows up at your table, or the casino goes bankrupt.

I also believe that Vegas has a much higher percentage of big-name poker pros. I would guess they live there for a reason.

I was actually going to rank Vegas last if I had to guess

Texas
Florida
LA
Vegas

If I was guessing the best options to play for a living, for the average pro (i.e. not nosebleed stakes)

If PLO fizzles out for Anthony there's always Lucha Libre....

lol, playing this tourney on Fox and get the chiplead............then power goes out in my house.

Start playing on the mobile site and doing well, 3rd in chips with 11 left. Raise to 5K with Kings and doofus overshoves with 9's, I snap, he binks the 9 right on the flop to get rewarded. Should be chipleader and pretty much guaranteed a cash, now on the short-stack.

At least power came back on so back on my PC

This Biggie dude bet a dry side-pot on the turn with another player all-in on a stone-cold bluff, no pair, no draw, lol. Just handed me some extra chips earlier (I had flopped top pair and the turn didn't change that)

Other dude 27nvrKnowAA overshoved earlier preflop with 88 and said he didn't want some jackass calling his raise with A2 and getting lucky

Hearing some podcast talk, Vegas is not that great for new poker players. Maryland surprisingly makes the list! Lots of money from DC and still a newer market.

How did this end?

We pickup AT off in the BB with a stack of 12-13bb and rip it after the HJ makes a 3x raise and the CO cold-calls

HJ snap reshoves, CO folds and shows KQ off. HJ has AA

Runout QT55J and we bust in 9th. Really wish my KK held up against the 99 earlier, whomp whomp

Ever since COVID, masks, dividers, social distancing, staying home when you feel sick... I forgot what a "cold" is.

Spoke too soon. In LP with :as::ac::tc::9d:

There's a raise, a caller, a reraise and I repot to $605 on a stack of $1300+

Two guys get it all-in, reraiser folds (he only goes once and would've gotten lucky)

First board

:kh::8s::6d::8h::ks:

Second board

:th::9c::3c::8d::6h:

We scoop both

Wow game sounds amazing

I'm not sure what his preflop plan was with that trash on the button, but the free turn was his gin card.
I don’t think he’s a TAG player. Sounds like a bad reg or fish right? Even in the button 3578 is such a bad hand. But I think you played the hand well. Given your blocker and being super high up in your range it’s just a weird hand

:qc::qs::js::9c: limp in BB, callers, button raises to 65, one caller, I call, pro repots to 340, raiser calls, I fold

Flop :jc::9s::4c:

Ugh, they get it all-in

PRO :ac::ad::qd::5h:
RAISER: :kc::qh::8d::8c:

I would've won, fill up with 9 on river
Can you explain your thought process in folding? I want to learn more….

We are on the button, bunch of limpers, we limp with

:ks::qc::8s::7c:

Flop is :ad::js::ts:

Chwcked to us, we pot, solid player on my right calls

Turn :kh:

He check-calls our pot bet again

River :ah:

He leads for 150. I think it's possible he has the same hand as me and is betting to push me off the chop, I call

He shows :ac::as::4d::2s:

Ooch! Stuck $250
If that’s your read you should pot it yes??

2nd nuts is generally a money burner in this game

This hand is ok if you can close the action with position and see a flop cheap (and are comfortable navigating post-flop)

But from EP you can get yourself in trouble. Barring the ridiculous runout I would have gotten, this hand generally isn't going to make the nuts, it's going to make 2nd best or worse

There are significant gaps between the cards, so while they have some connectivity, a lot of times if you do hit you won't make the nut straight, or may share it with your opponent who has redraws you don't

Likewise, the 8 high flush draw is a slim backup and not something to go to war with

Hands like this look deceptively good. If you were short-stacked and could get it all-in pre against one opponent with some dead money, you should have decent equity most times

But multiway with deep stacks it's just not going to flop as perfect enough times to make much off the hand
This is really good analysis!!

That's a weird hand to raise pre OOP. Must really be disrespecting your limping range. Sorry the deck corrected his error.
3 hearts and a bad 6….how much of a “pro” is he? Was he stuck? He sounds like a really loose bad player lol

Have :kc::kd::5d::4h: in the CO and call a preflop raise from best player at table to 40

5 ways to flop of :kc::tc::2s:

He bets 175, I pot it, he repots, we agree to go twice

He announces middle set and flush draw.

First board :2h::9d:
Second board :7c::7h:

We scoop and pickup the pumpkin!

Who was best player at table? I’d love to read more tendencies of the better players to get a feel
Of how to really play PLO!

The other pro in that hand said he was partly to blame for the TAG pro playing the 3578 hand to a raise pre.

He mentioned that the previous night he had played a junky hand against the TAG and gotten him good, so the TAG was likely seeking a bit of payback, but I got caught in the middle

My thought process with the QQJ9 hand was that I was likely facing a strong AAxx or KKxx hand, which puts my hand in rough shape. Couple with the issue of my playing a bloated pot OOP against two opponents, I felt the fold was the best option

In the hand where I believed my opponent might have the same hand as me and was betting to push me off a chop, I didn't see a ton of value in raising

Him chopping is just part of his range, he might have a full house and raising is a disaster. I was ok with calling and seeing showdown rather than running a risky bluff

Also, been sick since last Wednesday, but finally starting to feel better

Back in the PLO streets on Friday!

Lol, guy made an $80 (big for the hand) river bet that made no sense, just felt like he was bluffing given myself and the other two in the hand showed zero interest

We didn't seem like any of us could call that bet

He's sitting next to me and I turn to him and pretend to tickle his side while I say KOOCHIE KOOCHIE KOO!

His laugh feels VERY forced

I call with one pair, everyone else folds and I shout SHOW ME THA' BLUFF MAAAAANNN!

and sure enough he shows a stone cold bluff. I pat myself vigorously on the back and ask if anyone wants to stake me 20k to play the uncapped 25/25 PLO that is running

Nice call but seems like an angle

Not the speech the physical act of you getting close enough to touch him and elicit a reaction. But also you shouldn't have speech play if there's two others in the hand.

Flop a wheel on a 245 board, slowplay it multiway, turn nut flush draw, guy in the blinds shortstacked and pots, we repot

He is drawing dead with 2nd nfd

Had a hand earlier where the flop was :qh::9c::7h:

Guy with JTxx and a jack-high flush draw bets out. Tight lady pots with :9h::9d::6h::5h:

I repot to $280 with QQxx to isolate her (the guy who bet was the action player at the table)

But he cold-calls OOP and she's all-in for less

Somehow with him having two :hearts:'s in his hand and her holding three of them, the :3h: hits the turn. We both check

River :4c:

He bets $200, I fold and his flush scoops a nice pot

There was a time tonight where I was bumped back down to even, but fortunately rallied and stacked a short stack a couple times and ended the session with a profit of $700

Also noticed a 10/25 PLO has been running all week every night around 6pm, but word is it's private

However there is a 25/25 PLO on Fri/Sat that is open

Buyin is $2,500 to UNCAPPED!

I'm checking with a buddy who might stake me for the game *crosses fingers*

that's not so much a tell as a man feeling very uncomfortable with another man doing that to him.

Lol, he was cracking up about it after and kept doing it back to me

It's similar with me asking "if I show, will YOU fold?" After someone has bet, or even gone all-in

It catches them off-guard, which usually results in a reliable tell

If their laughter or smile seem forced, they are uncomfortable with their bet

If their response seems comfortable and genuine, they are likewise not worried about their hand

This doesn't mean I don't need to consider their potential for viewing hand strengths differently than me in certain spots

Like in hold em when the guy bet a straight and I bluff-shoved with my missed flush and straight draws

I felt he was not comfortable with his hand strength, and he considered folding for awhile, feeling like all he could beat was a bluff

So I read his comfort level well, but had trouble putting him on Q9 in that spot since I had KQ and felt he was bluffing or at best had one pair

Regardless, I've used these tells multiple times to make calls or folds that made or saved me chips

ha, i get it, i was just messing with you.

on a side note, my wife says it as "goochie goochie goo" and refuses to accept she's wrong.
