@Saoliver - when you're right, you're right

Speaking of Buffalo Trace, why is their Eagle Rare so rare yet inexpensive? Can't find it here (1 bottle in last 6 mos.).
Eagle Rare is a 10yr. Great bottle at $30-$40. I can always find it, but I’m not willing to pay more than that. Though I am comfortably stockpiled at the moment.

Maker's Mark mathematics time.

MM Cask$43110 proof689 mL614 mL
MM 101$30101 proof750mL$39.50
MM reg$2590 proof750mL$35.20

The MM101 contains 689mL of "barrel liquor", plus 61mL of water. It SHOULD cost $39.50 at the rate of $43/750mL of "barrel liquor", but I got mine for $30 back in November/December. Similarly, regular MM contains 614mL of barrel liquor, plus 136mL of water. It should cost $35.20, but I got mine for around $25 (I've seen it near $20).

So, the MM connoisseur can consider that you're getting the regular and 101 bottles at a significant discount from the Cask Strength, or that the Cask Strength costs a premium over the 101 and regular. The data above does not show a proper 101 and regular comparison. Essentially, the 101 is giving you 10% more of the good stuff for about a 20% increase in price, which isn't too much of a premium.

I'm at least one sheet to the wind right now, maybe two. Neat, the aromas and mouth feel are very similar. But it really isn't even a contest. As the alcohol content increases, the astringency also increases. There is basically none with the regular MM, and quite a bit with the cask strength, with the 101 being in between. If I was a neat drinking MM guy, I'd get the regular version, every time.

Later this week, the rocks test. I expect the cask strength to shine.

Snagged a lone MWND Act 7 gathering dust at a larger shop not too far away. A bit over retail, but not like I’m going to find many more. Another shop (that I've mentioned previously with their "below wine-searcher" price of $300 on ETL), had a Willett FE 6 year old rye for...$1K. Hard pass.

How much was that cwc inlay??

no photos, but I can assure you I'm in a good place this afternoon.

we've had a nice flight of Peerless Rye, Buffalo Trace, Crown Reserve, Belle Meade Reserve and now Willet 4yr.

cheers!
Of those which did you like best? I like the willet but I haven’t tried the peerless yet

My ranking:

BT, just because... so good. $25/bottle is a steal... A STEAL

Willet

Belle Meade... first time trying it so will put it in the middle.

Crown... surprisingly good

Peerless... this is not worth $100/bottle in my opinion... not even close. This should be $40/max. Good heat, lack of flavors. Big disappointment, unimpressed. I wanted the wow factor, but nah.

Great feedback. I really like the herbal grassy notes in the willet. I’m looking for more of that profile.

wheated and rye mix? I’ll try it. Although my Blantons only has one more pour left. Cant find another. Don’t want to line up for it either.
I’m sure someone on here can get you a blantons
