Sitting Out
Started off with two pieces of plywood. A 22/32 and I think a 1/4. I know I should’ve used 3/4 as the base but I wasn’t in the mood to run around Home Depot and find it. The 22/32 got cut into the base and the 1/4 got cut into 3 sections.
The first was the 3 inch rail. I know that is thin compared to other homemade tables but it turned out good. I lined up and drilled holes between this section and the base so I could drop bolts down and bolt this section on. The foam and vinyl covered the top of the bolt. I did this so it can be removed for storage or repair if the vinyl gets ripped.
Second section is a 4 & 1/2 rail. I was originally going to cut cupholders into this section but decided to use the slide under ones.
3rd section is the centerpiece with the felt. Like the second section, this piece just drops in and fits like a puzzle so it doesn’t move around.
As for modifications I put 6 USB ports underneath. One at each end and two on each side. I figured this was plenty of chargers. The other mod I did was LED lights on the bottom. These change with an app on your smartphone.
I got the foam and vinyl from your auto store and the felt from eBay. I wanted a felt with a bet line as I’m usually the only one who deals and it makes gathering the chips a lot easier if everyone puts them over the line.
overal, if you look at this table and know poker tables, you can tell it’s homemade. But I feel like the average person would have a hard time telling it’s homemade. I wish I was a bit steadier with the jigsaw when cutting the wood and and had cut the foam under the rail more even with the blade before stretching the vinyl. While it was more expensive than I had thought, the total came out to around $400, which is half the price of the cheapest table I can find. It took about a week or so of work but if I had ordered everything at once I could’ve knocked it out in a day or two. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I am not a professional woodworker in anyway so my amateur advice might be of assistance.
also, if anyone has advice on folding legs and where to mount them underneath, please let me know. The legs I have now suck and I want to make sure I arrange the new ones properly.
