There really is no good reason for those little fockers to be on this planet.

my highest count was 126 ticks in the house after both dogs ran away into the town woods.

I did not sleep that well that night.

126 you ask? but matt how can you be so sure that many?

well let me tell you, you can physically really only hold about 5 in-between your fingers as you pick them up off the floor and furniture.
after multiple trips to the bathroom you realize you need a better system , so you progress to a ziplock bag. But even then you have to empty bag occasionally as they creep (and i mean creep) out the bag.

I know it. I actually went to look for the picture where they found close to a million ticks on a dead moose, but then I found this poor dog.

It looks to be an especially bad year in NJ.

Two years ago, we had a bumper crop of acorns, which leads to a spike in mouse populations for the proceeding years.

Ticks have a two year lifecycle, larva to nymph to adult. The nymphs do especially well on mice, while the adults prefer bigger mammals.

And this year's mild winter means that fewer adults were killed off by frosts.
