Anyone know what the breakdown was for the starting stacks for the 2003 WSOP main event? I’m pretty sure they started with 10k but I’m curious how many of each chip they started with?

Yes, 10k start stack

for an exact breakdown, I would assume
8 x 25
8 x 100
8 x 500
5 x 1000
This is speculation. Someone might know a definite

That breakdown makes sense. So the 5ks didn’t start showing up until they started to color up?

The breakdown almost certainly starts with 8 25s and 8 100s. That's been the standard for years now. The main question (imo) is whether they gave you a 5k chip in your starting stack or whether they came out during 1st color-up.

The reason I ask is because I want to put together a heads up set with same starting stacks they started with. Just trying to start a project that will last years and cost lots of money!

There's got to be an ESPN video clip somewhere on youtube.

8/8/4/7 makes sense. That's how my local room does it because 8/8/4 fits in a rack so neatly. Then they just count out the T1000 chips.

@nezara sent me a picture of Hellmuth's starting stack from 2003. He was late and was blinded off, so some of the T25s are missing in that pic. But he definitely only had 2 T500s and I believe 7 or 8 T1000s. So starting stacks were either 12/7/2/8/0 or 8/8/2/8/0. No T5000s. The T500s were/are in very short supply.

This is Hellmuth’s before he sat down. He showed up late. Pretty sure they were taking the 25’s for his blinds.

Edit: better pic

Lol! @nezara and I talked. The pic is mine. Should have read before I posted.
