Other than having one for the collector aspect of it, what's the benefit of having a dedicated tournament set vs just using a set with denominations on it? I've played tourneys with a cash set and as far as I could tell everything went fine.

Thoughts?

For years I ran a T1 based tourney T500 Starting stacks with these sluggos

Back 15 plus years ago most of our area home games were using Dice Chips, so having denominated "heavy" chips made these a crowd pleaser! Lol

Also many casinos when tour Els started were running T1 based and overtime people wanted bigger numbers on the chips and WSOP made the game blow up in popularity.

Of course there is the security aspect that we all state, but who doesn't re - rack their chips before starting cash? You would know if something is missing. Lol

My question is they say Optimization with T100 over T25 which most casinos have changed over to now... what happens if you take the zeros off of that 100? Ohhh a T1? You guys really reinvented the wheel here gents! You added zeros to a chip for one reason and one reason only! People want to feel like high rollers, sorry but that is the absolute only reason to do that! Lol

We mostly run T25 based tourneys, but also have T5 based sets and our Turbo sets are still T1 based T500 sets.

Play what works for you @bintzknocker ! A value on a chip is just that, units no dollars, doesn't make any difference!

Mostly just excuses to buy more Pretty things! Lol

I have 4 sets that get a lot of use. I like rotate each set into my season. I also love the fact that when I host a larger tournament with a game that we play called Multi-Life, that each Multi-Life game I can use a different set. The Multi-Life tournament has 3 smaller tournaments where each player starts with 5K in chips. At the end of the game, when the timer has counted down to zero, each play adds up their chip total. They do this 3 times. Then at the main tournament, those bonuses are added to the Main Event stack. It's nice to have 4 sets to do this.

So that if you host a tournament first players who are "busted" can start a cash game with separate chips than the set you are using for the tournament. Thus preventing tourney chips from migrating to the cash game and tipping your bank at the end of the night. That is the #1 reason I have tourney/cash sets. The most fun is having sets with similar themes to cover both cash/tourney to keep the theme of the game common through the night

Agree with this about cohesion between the sets, a "theme" for the evening as it where... example

05 Touney with the cash set to the left with relabeled $20s and $100s so the two sets do not overlap, but still can be played in the same evening.

But to be fair, you can also run overlapping games with two designated cash sets.

Security is a good reason

MOAR chips is a better reason!

But for me, the main reason is different denominations and breakdowns. I don't see too many tournaments that start out with nickel chips... :wtf:

So yeah, I use 0.05, 0.25, $1, $5 and $20 in my cash games. Rarely do the $20s even see the felt. For tournaments I like to start with T25, T100 or T500, and have sets that will accomodate all three of those. Plus, I don't like currency symbols on my tournament chips. My custom T chips have a "no cash value" message on them.

Oh for sure. You could play with buttons if you wanted.
No kidding. Buttons, matchsticks, or even those things we all have that already have denominations on them! In the past I played with a group where everyone brought their own jar filled with change to the game.

You have to remember people drop chips... What if they drop a chip during the tournament and you sit down and it's under you. "I did just get a beer must be mine" "is this mine" -table " yep, must be" "woohoo extra dollar"

This aspect is what led me to acquire a Royal Yak cash set to match my tourney set. Having no overlapping denoms between the sets ensures there are no chips migrating from tourney to cash.

Ben
That’s Cdi 05?

Put it this way. I have never played a live hand of limit poker in my life yet I still feel the urge to put together a 900pc limit set in case the imaginary limit game in my head comes to fruition.
I thought limit

I think this may be one of if not the largest privately owned tournament set seen on PCF......
I ran some numbers perhaps you have other variations but your tournament chips 25+ could cover T20000 for 120 players with a bounty as a single rebuy token for every player to rebuy once and still color up to 1000's..... That is amazing and I would love to see it. Furthest I can push is 70 players for a t5 and 40 for t25 based tournaments.
