I have been looking at ordering chips, probably something from Apache. I received a sample set from them and the one Majestic Star chip doesn't look to be in horrible condition. It stands on edge even. So why are they selling them so cheap compared to other Paulsons? Did I just happen to get a good one but the bulk of them will be bicycle tires? Or are there a gazillion of these in circulation bringing the value down?

Anyone have some insight?

I have a sample set of the Majestic Stars. There are 4 versions of the $5 and 2 versions of the $25. 2 of the $5's and one of the $25's have significant wear.

The lower prices were for a number of reasons.
They were offered originally from a ChipRoom sale of many, many chips acquired from the casino. So there were a lot of them offered. Second, the condition was more worn than most of their other offerings, so they were sold at a very good price.
The chips were also offered at a time when there were many other casino sets available. Folks around here had lots of Paulson choices for great prices.
Lastly, the chips are RHC which are not as desirable among many set collectors.

In short, the demand is less than the large supply on the Majestics as opposed to some other casino Paulsons.

Condition was pretty heavily used. Inlays were variable. Original sale price was very low from TCR so basically they have next to no resale value. A new member can buy other newer Paulsons from TCR for only a little more. Tina ceramics chips are also at a similar price point.

“Blaze” 1ks sell for $7/chip the lowest of all blaze 43mm 1ks.

Yikes!!

A picture is worth a thousand words. The chip they sent me was a $25 that looks to be about the same as your good one. The varying designs wouldn't bother me as I would just overlay my own design over them but if they're gonna be as worn as those I'll have to look elsewhere. Thanks for taking the time to post the pics!

I found the 1s to be very useable. The 100/500s are pretty good.

The 5s and 25s are a little bit of a wreck.

I have 2 NCV majestic star 36mm sets. one marketed by TCR as the low limit set is fantastic with great colours. Second larger set are much more used/worn especially the 25/100 value chips. I chose to build a large 10 table set of out these given the low cost. Also since I bought so many there are not many out there with others of the set so they are almost exclusive.

Worn chips of uneven dimensions so stacks do not equal side by side. These are to me the main detractors with the majestic star cash chips. On the plus side they are leaded chis which can feel nice but are very worn due to use. If stacking barrels wide by side to compare value vs counting each chip individually is your thing then majestic stars may not be for you. I like the colors and would have bought a set to have a consistent cash to tourney theme of the same casino however the poor condition made me avoid the cash chips specifically. I have a large primary HSI set (mostly used) that is in remarkably better condition. All the chips stack equally in barrels of 20 so no discrepancy on height resulting in easy counting and stack comparisons.

I really like them for the price. I bought twice as many as I needed and put together a set of matched types for a travel set. I offered the remaining chips at a good discount but when I thought about how little I was selling them for I just made another matched set. So instead of one traveling set, I just keep one remote set in STL and one in SEA. The red 5's may be bike tires but they are heavy and feel great in the hand.

thanks for all the pics! ... Yeah, I'll definitely be looking elsewhere for my first set

Why are they so cheap? Have you ever heard the phrase "bicycle tires"?
So these would be best to go with Bicycle cards yeah? :wtf:  :ROFLMAO:

Around here, we pay a premium for lead.
We had a guy nicknamed "chips" where I used to work ..... not for being a chipper or gambler but for all the lead paint chips he must have eaten as a toddler. Nicest guy in the world but man was he dense!
