Wow, David O is like the nicest guy on this board (or at least on the short list.) When you get him upset maybe it’s time to tone down the rhetoric.
...Paulsons are to TRK as...David O = PAZ

You can’t unown your statements and you’re trying to be cute with what you’ve said. You conveniently elide your wholly unsupported statement that prior to the GB becoming public, GB members were dropping other chipsets on other members at inflated prices and that those that bought from GB members lost a fortune. That is simply NOT the case. And I’m still waiting for some proof—any—that the GB had an impact on the chip market. Prices and sales before, during and after the GB prove you wrong.
There is plenty to criticize about the GB. This, however, is a figment from a dark corner of your imagination.
This is tedious and pedantic. I’m done responding to you as it is clear you simply want to stir the pot.
Holy crap, that sounds like a hell of a start on the inlay of a new custom set though.I thought this was my new word for the day, but it seems to be out of context:

Sigh. I have been directly quoting you ad nauseam:Dude, what are you talking about. Read the thread. If you want to talk about posts from a different thread, post a link, and we can discuss in that thread.
If you want to debate the points I’ve raised in this thread, you are welcome to do so.
I will no longer respond to you as your willful blindness is obviously intentional and intended to troll.New members were blatantly lied to during the whole time the boat chip group buy was going on. People who spent fortunes on used chips lost money because of those lies, [emphasis added] while some people inside the group buy made fortunes reselling chips.

This is true and confirms that the GB was a dubious venture that should never have been attempted since GPI had to be duped; legal or otherwise. It directly impacted vendors here and was achieved in poor taste imo but I don't harbor bad feelings towards the participants. Some people applaud the "success" but i view it as the exact opposite. The reason why it was successful was because all of pcf was not aware of it.

Laugh all you want Dave but the fact is that if GPI knew they were ultimately selling to the home market they would have never produced the chips, threads and posts wouldn't have had to be removed to hide from prying eyes etc etc. and why the subsequent order was cancelled.
That is indeed the question isn't it. But I can assure you that if it was made clear to me that my silence was needed because various activities were afoot to trick GPI, then yes, that's a red flag that I hope everybody would recognize as something to reconsider and withdraw. The question would be would you feel this way if you were asked to join from the beginning with the caveat to not speak publicly about cause it would jeopardize the GB in general.
.... People who invested heavily in used chips, unaware that three hundred thousand new chips were about to hit the market, did lose part of the value of their investment, due to the laws of supply and demand....
.... instances in which group buy members profited from the venture....
Let's ask site vendors how they feel and whether or not they saw a reduction in sales that they contribute to the GB. Instead, we had to stomach the hypocritical chastising of Josh for his marketing of the Gemaco promo chips.
Give me a f'ing break.
Holy crap, that sounds like a hell of a start on the inlay of a new custom set though.

Finally we are getting somewhere. Yes, I wrote this in the thread above. Granted, this statement is dramatic, but it is essentially true. People who invested heavily in used chips, unaware that three hundred thousand new chips were about to hit the market, did lose part of the value of their investment, due to the laws of supply and demand.
The rest of my earlier statement refers to instances in which group buy members stated publicly that it was impossible to obtain new chips from GPI, and instances in which group buy members profited from the venture.
Is that basically clear? This is the source of the loss of trust, in my view.
I agree, but to Stocky's original point, it is a factor in today's community behavior. But Stocky wouldn't see posts that aren't made, so they wouldn't add to the discord. And in my view, the Boat discord has not carried over into other topics. It only appears when the chips (or how they came to be) come up.
...even with this discord, you'll find very few arguing that the boat was bad. They may be vocal, but it's about a half-dozen or so out of hundreds (thousands?) of members.
You cannot let <1% paint a picture of discord amongst the community. Even those that are (still) upset, are still pretty cool people outside of the sensitive topic and I would be happy to host them if they were in the neighborhood.

3. Calling out "Scammers"
With sensitivities high in the forum, the Drumhoss debacle was another hit when he "took the money and ran" from a number of buyers. Because it took so long for people to notice/call out his behaviour due to the trust in the community, I think there's been an overcorrection and people are calling out potentially bad transactions a lot faster... While some might be valid, there's also been a few misunderstandings/miscommunications that required retractions.
