So let's start with a little history lesson: 24th Michigan mustered out of Fort Wayne with 494 strong, including Second Lieutenant Gilbert A. Dickey to become one of five regiments that made up the Iron Brigade/Black Hats. They saw action on Day 1 of the Battle of Gettysburg at McPherson's Woods, suffering heavy casualties. By the time they retreated to Culp's Hill ten hours later, they had lost 363 men, a 73% casualty rate. Dickey was shot picking up and advancing Michigan's colors and is buried in Gettysburg National Cemetary. He was in the first graduating class of Michigan State University (then Michigan Agricultural College).

At the Monument to Michigan 24th, we met two guys from White Lake and South Lyon (both Spartans) who make it their first stop every visit to Gettysburg to pay respects to the Michigan 24th and Dickey, the Spartan of Gettysburg. (Not my photo, as it on my other camera, but here's one from the interent):

Way too many photos from the Battlefield, that I won't bore you with.

Thursday, we drove up to Pottsville to visit America's Oldest Brewery, D.G. Yeungling and Sons.

Under the brewery, they carved out "The Caves" by hand (they couldn't use dynamite when they were building a brewery on top) right into the mountain. The Caves gave access to mountain springs and kept a constant temperature, regardless of how warm or cold it was outside, which was important before refrigeration was possible.

The Feds stormed in at the start of Prohibition, damaged much of the equipment, and then ordered the caves sealed off with brick and mortar. They remained that way for 14 years, until Prohibition was repealed.

The brewery has been operational for 190 years, though they built a more modern plant nearby and tothe old Stroh's plant in Florida.

And now, for @Boother36's viewing pleasure:

970 Lager Lights per minute... And yes, we sang the Laverne & Shirley theme song...

Awesome!

Final summer vacation started with a couple days in Boston. Visited Fenway for my oldest and hit all the tourist stops.

Then a week at LBI. Youngest won the biggest fish pool on the morning Fluke trip and netted himself $165! Might try and get some creeper shots from the beach, plenty of good scenery.
