I think I was mixing it up with the judges' game... Kept thinking of the line "the big bet is 20".

Yeah my guess is the judges game was what we would today call spread limit with a 20 max.

Just found some in Western Australia. Been searching on best maintenance (cleaning, to oil or not) but coming up blank.

Weird texture. Wondering how to confirm these are genuine bakelite type or something different.

Yeah, that matches better with what I have in front of me. Seems to be a lot of fibres in them. Think a few threads claimed bakelite and that mislead me.

Yeah, there is a lot of digital ink on this page spilled about "paranoid" chips. All the rage in the early-mid 1900s.

I've seen early catalogs circa 1935 selling them for $7.50 per box of 100 (7.5 cents ea). In 2023 dollars that would be more than $16 per chip!

7 cents back then would definitely be $1.67 in today's cost, not $16!

And here's my Paranoid comet tourney set today... 800 playable with an extra 20 of each color as backups, totaling 900 chips.
Green = T25
Brown = T100
Blue = T500
