As with most people during the pandemic (especially those trapped in apartments within cities), I've been spending a lot of time at home this last year. The more time I've spent walking around this ever so spacious 800 sq ft. the stronger the desire I had to upgrade my stuff (and throw myself out the window). First it was my media server setup, then furniture, then audio equipment...then this last Saturday afternoon I fell head first into this world of poker chips I had no idea existed until now.

I was an avid Hold'em player in college, back in the online heyday. Would drive up to casinos a few times a semester. Played cash games with friends whenever we could get a group together. The career got busy, life got in the way, and my opportunities to play fell to the way side. The trips to Vegas changed from annually to every other year. The cash games happened no more than a handful of times a year. Then the pandemic happened and everything stopped altogether.

I've always loved shuffling chips. Yet the cheap poker briefcase sets bought off Amazon that we were using amongst friends had always left a lot to be desired. I long for a stack of legitimate casino chips in my hand...which led to a Google search and several hours later I've gone through all the popular sites and came across this forum. Figured if I was serious about getting the real casino chips I've wanted, there was no better place to look for them than here. It was time to set up an account.

I'm prepping my order of samples from Apache. Unfortunately, as much as I want that set of Harrah's Paulsons, it's not quite perfect enough for me to justify the price. I've never held China clays before, but I'm hopeful from what I read and am definitely adding Dunes to the list. I never even knew coin inlay chips like the Condado plazas existed, and they are just way too cool.

For such a big part of my life that poker was, this very important side of the game has been neglected by me for way too long. That ends now...here starts the beginning of the journey towards the perfect set.

Thanks! The overwhelming general advice I've gathered so far is get ALL the samples. Even if you don't think you'd consider them, get the samples. I'll take it to heart, can't hurt to have more chips to fidget with.

Welcome!
I think the perfect set is like a mirage in the desert. The more chip sets you get, the more you realize that perfect one doesn't exist.
But that's not a bad thing...if you just enjoy the journey.
Enjoy!

I know the feeling all too well. I unfortunately collect too many things for my own good. Once you hit your target, something else inevitably catches your eye. But that's part of the fun.

Get samples, which is the guilded advise. Also, take your time. You'll find as you fiddle around, tastes will change. Understand that if you guy a higher end set, it can actually be net neutral as you can get the cost back normally or have a minimal loss. If you get cheaper plastic, those can be a full loss.

China clays are a great start a hold some value. The v8s by Palm Gaming are a personal favorite and still around if ya search hard enough.

Enjoy the ride, ask questions, and don't take anything too seriously. Were a huge ass family, and sarcasm is a common language.

I don’t know how much you’ve poked around, but the Horseshoe Southern Indiana 1a secondaries from the chip room are without question the best value I’ve seen in my time on PCF. 60¢ per chip for new Paulsons. Get other samples for sure, but if I were you I’d put a shuffle stack of these at the front of the line.

I was eyeing a Horseshoe set from a site, since those were by far the cheapest Paulsons I could find. The ran that sale a few months ago, Isn't everything from that post already sold out?

Edit - Awesome, just found some of the sale links on the post, clicked on the set links and they still go through!

They will go through to the PayPal store, however you need to enter your quantities and continue before it will tell you if they are in stock. I think the primary $1, $1a ( use the Black Friday link for .60 each) and the $25 are still available.
Edit: the quantities as of Saturday were compiled here:

Welcome to the forum! I was looking to part with a bunch of samples that I gathered up in the beginning of my journey so if you're interested, shoot me a PM!

Welcome! Glad to see toive already ordered samples! Take things slow and find what you really like. If you do decide to dive into a good set of chips, I would recommend a nice set if cards, as well as a table topper or upgraded poker table if you don't already have one. There are reasonably priced foldable tables out there, and almost anything can be reflected. I would alap strongly recommend some comfortable chairs, I know that option can be a bit tough with limited storage space, but a comfy butt can go a long way!
Also, avoid the hot dog roller thread... lol

Played around with a bunch of cards, I always settle back on Gemacos. I’ve seen some people rave about Kems but I wasn’t too big a fan. Anything you like in particular?

If this question was intended for Bree specifically I apologize, but many here highly recommend Desjgn. Cartamundi’s are also great for the price that Josh Kifer sells them at.

Never heard of either of those. Looked up Cartamundi and turns out they print MTG cards, pretty cook.
