Someone stole my cars wheel at Tampa Hard Rock (1 Viewer)

Feeling better about my upgrade to locking lug nuts!
Actually...found out first hand that locking lug nut removal can be faster and add to repair costs than standard lug nuts.

Instead of using the tire iron to unscrew a lug nut, they insert the flat end of the tire iron between the luck nut and wheel then step on it shearing the wheel stud.

After all four wheels were stolen from my car leaving me four sheared wheel studs, I learned. If someone wants your wheels, they’ll take them.

PS Sorry about the theft.

A cheap throw away socket from Harbor Freight gets them off super fast too. I bought a car back in the day that had wheel locks but no lug nut key. Hammer it 1/4 to 1/2 half on the locking lug nut and they come right off. Best to get 4 of them so you don't have to worry about getting the socket off the lug nut later on. I would get new lug nuts anyway.

Maybe they were planning on taking all 4 and someone scared them in the act. A couple years ago people were stealing Ford Explorer wheels very frequently around here in Michigan but they would leave the vehicle on landscape bricks. That rim may have just been something to keep your car off the ground. The bad guys figure out what can make a quick buck and yours are probably in style for theft right now.

The fact that you drove off with the mismatched and insufficiently reattached wheel speaks volumes to the motivation for replacing it rather than just taking it.

I have seen a number of explanations mentioned for the “why only one” question.

The most important thing is that you were not injured. A wheel falling off at high speed seems a bit frightening to me.

I hope it was random as opposed to you being targeted. Plus one for parking in better camera range.

That is some crazy ish. What are they going to do with a Nissan with one black rim? And why would they bother giving you their wheel. Maybe it's pranksters and some guy with a Nissan got a free upgrade he doesn't want

I think I know why they gave him another wheel...

...not that it worked for Indy, but you never know.

Go full degen and see if you can flip the new wheel and tire for an upgrade. Toss it in classifieds and autograph it. @BarrieJ3 will prob buy it..
Wow dude . Wtf, I’m not out here buying car parts. Although technically it is casino used. Yeah, okay I guess. Ship it.

Sorry man, that really sucks. Same thing happened to me a 3 days after I got my new car. Dealer didn't put locks on. That's what I get for parking on the street in the Bronx! Thought they stopped stealing wheels back in the 80s.....who knew!

UPDATE!!!!!

Spoke with the detective division over at the casino, the case is still assigned to the officer who took my report, but I was told they caught a 2 door sedan on camera with mismatched rims AND got a tag #, so the detectives are expecting it will be sent to them soon for further investigation. Maybe we will catch this fucker!

I lost a front wheel once while on the northbound I-45 elevated just past the Allen Center Parking Garage. I think it went into Buffalo Bayou; I never found it. Luckily I had a spare tire and spare a spare set of lug bolts (VW). Fixed it on the side of the freeway.
It was a brand new tire. Always personally check your lugs after someone else works on your wheels.
