Picked these up recently. Anyone know what the story is with these chips? It looks like someone put paper stickers on the chip and rubber stamped them. The chip guide has them listed as a "paste-on sticker". Looks like the $5 & $25 were done the same way. It almost looks like they took off the un-denominated labels (look at the top of the chip guide page) and put these stickers in their place...but why? Pretty sure these didn't leave T.R. King this way. Just can't for the life of me imagine a Nevada casino or the gaming commission allowing something this primative to be used.

Here is the link to the chip guide...

Kings Crown in Vegas was denied a gaming license in 1964, so it never had actual gaming. The KC property was bought by Milton Prell in 1966, who turned it into the Aladdin. Sharkey Begovich bought a big quantity of the KC chips and dug out the inlayed centers to make his own stickered chips. You sometimes see them show up on eBay.

I keep an eye out for the $5 chips, as they were altered to become part of my mixed TRK set.

Interesting. Thanks for the history lesson Forrest.

Sharkey was the inspiration (and predecessor) to modern-day chip murderers like @bentax1978 .... and now you know the ~rest~ of the story. :)

Thank goodness we have @Gear these days; those Sharkey label jobs are simply horrendous. What a difference fifty years can make.

Not all of them had the inlay removed. Some had the sticker placed over top, which can be removed to reveal the Kings Crown inlay.
