Scammed by USPS? (4 Viewers)

Hmmm...this is a screenshot using Click-n-Ship. There are no further steps, nor a place to add a weight for flate rate. It only comes up if I change it to to "I have my own package or envelope":

I use Pirate Ship and Shippo. Both require weights on FRBs. So might not be click n ship, but it allows ya to ship from home.

From looking at the label, those were shipped from the Mobile shipping stations or from a teller. But that's the exact label the stations print out when you auto weigh and use self service.

So the defense is that the bottom of the box was cut open, contents taken, paper put in, and it happened to be exactly the same weight?

I think we really need someone with a large HSI set to weigh the exact same chips
The receipt should show the weight of the packages when they were shipped I'm only on page 4 of this thread this sucks all the way around

So seller just happened to contact buyer and make him an offer he can’t refuse and then the chips don’t show up but paper does in its place. You don’t have to be Banacek to figure this one out. Or Joe Mannix or Frank Cannon.
Or Columbo, if not investigating a homicide in LA.

It’s a great age old question though.

If usps (or whoever) loses something, who’s responsible?

As the seller, I would take responsibility 100%, and hope that buyer would opt to cover half.

As a buyer, I’d be sad and of course offer to cover half.

A bit nerve racking though sending off thousands and thousands of dollars of chips on repeat knowing that if something happens, it’ll sit with me to resolve solo.

And then there’s all the people that say “I drop off chips, and my responsibility ends” which is crazy.
This is why always do insurance on anything expensive but then again who knows how difficult it is to get the money back when something like this happens I'm only on page 5 still a lot more to go but always insurance on anything expensive

I think UPS has flat rate options, but I tried to look them up the other day and I was confused. I think you print your own label and the box can be anything under certain demensions or something?
U can print labels out and put the exact weight on it

Again I'm only on page 5 but if there was no pics shown of the boxes prior to shipment that sucks but if there was a picture of the receipt it should show the weight of the packages

Read the entire thread before commenting probably just repeating what everyone has said

There's been a lot of talk about insurance, but in this case, when would insurance actually cover the loss? In my mind, unless the sender could prove that the chips were actually shipped and that the buyer prove that they didn't pull a swap, meaning that a paper substitution occurred along the shipment journey, the claim would be denied. So unless an investigation determined that the boxes were tampered with while in the possession of USPS, insurance wouldn't come into play here.

Otherwise, you could just ship and insure "gold bars" and collect insurance when bricks arrive.

Agreed, I believe insurance is to cover damage or loss. Missing/wrong item is between buyer and seller. Both should be filing claims if neither of them did anything wrong.

Yeah, insurance will cover a "lost" or "missing" package; said package was delivered, albeit the arrival of purchased contents are questionable, the "parcel" did arrive.
eBay has an "Item not as described" return for refund policy but I do not believe USPS insurance would cover this sort of discrepancy.

Okay I thought about it while I was at Five Guys and here's my thoughts.

Regardless of if SpaceMonkey sent paper or chips, or if someone at USPS took the chips or if aliens abducted the chips, Doublebooyah did not get the chips and is entitled to a full refund or a replacement of the chips. Open and shut item not received case.

The fact that the package sat at a USPS facility is irrelevant the only thing that matters is Doublebooyah did not receive the chips he ordered.

SpaceMonkey has to pursue the USPS to figure out what happened to the chips. Again, this has nothing to do with Booyah and a full refund should be sent immediately. A full refund will happen either way once the credit card provider steps in so the only reason for withholding is the inability to pay.

SpaceMonkey’s claim would be against the carrier and this claim is seperate from Booyah's claim against Spacemonkey. There shouldn't be any delay in the refund and there certainly should not be a delay 'contingent on USPS findings'.

Is any part of my thoughts flawed?
You must be wealthy eating at a five guys in 2025

If you tape boxes the correct way, they r bulletproof.

These boxes @SpaceMonkey420 sent me have minimal tape and appear to be only taped once along the edges and across the top. Also no tape where the boxes fold over and meet. For a long time pcfer very poor job.

Even the bottoms have no tape along the side. It’s almost like he wanted these to bust open!

My insurance has always been my CC unless they were extremely valuable chips, then I do insure them.

At the end of the day, these chips are extremely replaceable, hence no need for insurance since I made the purchase using my CC.

Yeah whenever I've shipped heavy boxes 10 lbs or more I tape that thing so crazy it will never open also for anyone shipping heavy things use filament tape it's fiberglass tape works great again sucks this happened hope it gets resolved

sucky situation - hopefully whoever put the paper in the box gets prosecuted

@doublebooyah85 - the weight of the chips with packaging is probably pretty close to the range of those boxes.

Average weights I have:
$1 - 9.85
$5 - 9.13
$25 - 8.03
$100 - 9.3
$500 - 8.53

Don't have actual weights for the below, but guesstimates:
$2.50 - will be around 9g - def above 8g and below 10g
IHC chips - should be in the 11g to 11.5g range

He communicated with me via text within the last hour.

He’s upset about character defamation and even tried to say I did. I reminded him that I not once defamed his character and presented only facts. In fact, I said he was a good guy one my second or third post.

He’s more upset I discussed his previous oceanside chip sale more than anything.

He will not offer me a full refund, partial refund, and he will also not send money to a third party for arbitration or escrow.

I will continue down the path with the post office inspectors and take their advice and guidance including press charges. I’m trying my best to not involve my credit card company to go after him via PayPal.

Thankfully my name has a lot of pull in my town. And my mother in law retired from the post office.

My 50/50 offer stands. Buyer and seller take half the responsibility. Even that he turned down and also won’t send money to a third-party. His response was he’s out of a poker chip set lol.
To alot of people 5k and or 2.5k is a lot of money if he truly did ship the chips I can see where he wouldnt want to take a 2.5k or 5k loss either same way you don't want to take the loss and no matter how wealthy someone is $ is $

But also he has to take responsibility and try to go to his local post office n do everything he can to help the situation as well can't all just be on you

And who knows how well insurance would have worked out but as a seller I know anything over $500 I offer the buyer to pay for insurance cause really at the end of the day once someone ships something it is out of their control question remains did he really send out the poker chips or stacks of paper only the seller and God will ever know that

Playing devils advocate.. the reason he is using paper is because he would like you to believe a post worker measured the box and kept adding paper until it matched the original weight..

A foolproof way to tell if he handled the paper is to scan for fingerprints. File the police report and let them compare.

Because otherwise there is a nonzero chance that a post worker is the criminal here.
This isn't a mur*er if u took that paper to the cops asking them to fingerprint it they would just look at you and be like this dude belongs in a hospital

Seller has no Chips and 5k

Buyer has no chips and -$5k

offer to chop the loss at 2.5k and still open an investigation is VERY fair.

What is taking so long for this to happen?
It’s worth point out that buyer has enough paper to print the Gutenberg bible, tho.

I don’t see the weight on the receipt but the label was likely applied at the counter. It does look like they took to the counter where the label would have been applied with the weight.

Is there an update if seller has been communicating with you? I get the Sabbath silence up until sunset yesterday or whatever his particular take on the rules are, but how about today? Have you called or texted him?

Zero communication today, after talking with him yesterday and him not offering me any refund or sending a refund to a third-party via arbitration I have no reason to reach out to him anymore.

Next week I’ll be meeting with the post office inspectors however, I won’t be giving any more updates. I think everyone can make their own judgment and I would like to keep any further resolution private.

@Tommy might as well lock this thread

That's almost as good news as this thread no longer being locked:ninja:.
