Manufacturer: Classic Poker Chips / CPC / 2023
Mold: CSQ - Cirqule Square

Inlay Designer: designed by myself

As everyone can see, this chipset was inspired by John's incredible Moonlight Tournament set. I was stunned as I saw his set the first time and I was blown away by its beauty. For me, the Moonlight Tournament set is without a doubt among the best CPC custom sets and I instantly fell in love with these color combos. So I made a request if it would be ok, to use John's color combos for my CPC set while using my own inlay design. He replied that he would love to see me creating my own combinations to make it completely my own set, instead of just copy paste his colors. So I had to change my first plan and I ended up in adding something new to his design. I have to apologize that I couldn't resist using the DG green and Charcoal combos, but the beauty of these two chips has been way too tempting for a weak soul!!! This Charcoal chip is such a stunner in real life and for me it feels like my own set on the one site and an honest homage to John's superb Moonlight set!

The "tiny" story behind the theme: After ain't playing poker for almost 5 years, I invited some friends back in octobre 2022 and the fire inside ignited and the love for poker chips instantly came back again! So, 15 years after I made my one and only ASM order "The D & A Casino", a set that me and my wife are still in love with, I start thinking about a new CPC custom cash set. After some silly ideas and try and errors, I ended up with a combination of the beautiful City that I live near to = "Cologne", and the movie that I love "Rounders" - so "Rounders Cologne" has been born and in the end, I really like this theme a lot. After a lot of different lay outs I ended up using a background silhouette of the "Kölner Dom", one of the worlds biggest gothic cathedrals. I created some fading color effects for the backgrounds, matching either the base color or an edgespot color, based on the superb CPC Colour Code/Marching List by @timinater. The color matching is really impressive and I never expected the inlay colors come that close to the clay colors.
Kudos @timinater.

I ordered 680 chips, receiving 730 in total after 181 days of waiting. Four chips have been damaged during shipping (the USPS box looked like it had some sparring with Mike Tyson), so the extra chips cover that loss easily!

The chips has been oiled already and the colors really shine right now.

I knew that the DG Peach chip with the DG Peach Inlay color beside the Charcoal DG Arc Yellow Inlay is by far not the best choice - at first I wanted to Retro Red chip as the 2 Euro chip. But I also wanted the DG Peach chip in play all the time because it's one of my favorite CPC colors - damn it's hot. In a last second action I asked David for a color change and I am very happy, that it wasn't too late.

There is one little failure in the inlay designs. David used an older ai.file for the 50ct. chip and I ain't recognized after I received the final artwork proof, so it's also my fault   and well, this little failure is hard to notice so I really can live with it :cool puh....

I hope you enjoy this little set. I absolutely love it and couldn't be happier.

Beautiful set! Looking at your 50c there isn't anything that doesn't fit with the set. If I had to take a guess I'd say that maybe you had updated the gradient color or the denom color in the newer version? If so I wouldn't let it get to you at all - the inlay looks great with the chip regardless. In fact, the 50c is my favorite in the bunch!

Congrats and enjoy! CSQ is a great mold.

“Asked me not to but I did it anyways” is an odd way to pay tribute.

I guess all that matters is that you’re happy!

In reality, no one gets to 'own' a particular edgespot and color combo when it comes to CPC. You don't have to ask anyone's permission for any color combo decision.

But seems odd to reach out and ask permission if you were not intending on respecting the creator's wishes. It comes across as a jab vs paying homage. But that's just my useless opinion.

Anyhow, enjoy your chips.

Agreed. The combo of base charcoal with grey, arc yellow and black is perfect. I’ll probably use it at some point ha. It’s an amazing combo.

Love the set, Dieter! The inlays along with the color matching are superb

If it were me I would simply feel honored if someone found my spot and color choices nice enough to base another set on.

That's a valid question  In the end it was a very rational decission based on multiple excel sheets with possible breakdowns that I wanted to cover. One barrel more wouldn't have had any noticable effect in these breakdowns and so I saved some money. If I will ever feel the need to add some chips I would probably vote for one rack of fracs...

That is such an impossibly German answer to the question!

Rational? In this hobby?

Some of the best color combinations I have seen. Truly great color selections even if you ”borrowed” from someone else. I recently ordered a CPC set and wish now I had seen your color combos before I ordered.

Thanks for tagging me, glad to have helped out with that! I'll link your set in that thread. Always good to have some photo examples.
Thank you, I really appreciate. Honestly I knew that there always is a little risk of a small variance between these colors compared to actual clay colors based on the clay material itself, but the result in my case came out extremely close.

For these five chips I used the following colors fir the inlay denom fonts and the color fading effect in the background:

10ct: DG Green
50ct: DG Arc Yellow
2€ : DG Peach
10€: Light Blue
50€: DG Pink

I tried the Blurple and Retro Red for the 10€ and 50€ as well, but the result was a bit too dark for my taste, even that I added an opacity to this fading effect (based on a white background layer behind the fading color layer).

I can hardly imagine the effort you put into this task to build such a detailed and precise color code list. Absolutely amazing!!!

I changed the opening post by adding a link to your CPC Colour Code/Matching List…

To be honest, i don't get all the hassle here. I do love the work of the designers on this forum and i do condemn copyright infringements. Especially in the latter i can be very german. Not to the "order 680 bc mathematically proven this should suffice" level but still very german.

But i would never have gotten the idea that this would apply to edgespot colors in a configurator. Basically that would feel like saying i combined this model of levis pants with this shirt from the gap and these timberland boots, so no one else should wear these together. And while i get it, that it would suck if all my co-workers or neighbours decided to copy my outfit i couldn't care less if a guy several thousand miles did that.

Yes, it’s exactly like a combination of pants and a T-shirt

I do agree this isn’t the place for it though.

Enjoy your chips @NeoViny23. If you ever get bored and want to sell them in the future I’d love to add on. I particularly like the 50 that you created btw

It is unfair to make my comparison look shallow by dropping the shoes :(

But jokes aside... except for chips being "holier" than fashion to us, i still think the comparison kinda works for my point.

I see edgespot patterns not as something to be created, but rather something to be decided on from a limited palette. That is what makes the difference for me.

Interesting point of view. The hours spent attempting to put something together that hadn’t been done before that wasn’t a hodge podge with that limited palette would beg to differ. But I truly do appreciate the perspective and shows why the opinions differ since the core belief is different.

For the record, I never have tried to lay claim to specific color combinations either lol. That’s a bit much. With the limited palette there are MANY chips that are pretty common and easy to put together especially for patterns like 3d14, 414, some qpies etc. It’s more the complex use of patterns and 4+ color chips, plus the overall set as a whole, where the creativity and effort come in to play.

And nothing's gonna take that away from you ever. It has not been done before at the time you designed your set, you were the OG who put in the effort to discover this good looking set combination - this sort of data is well documented on this forum.

Now with this sorted, what's the best validation that your efforts to find a beautiful new color scheme were actually successful? Some virtual hand clapping? No, that's cheap. But someone else splurging a few grand to have something similar? That's what I would call mission accomplished.
