is it just me or are people selling their casino paulson chips that they may have paid 1.75$ a chip for, for upwards of 4$ a chip.....Is this a trend that is going to continue as the paulson home chip market dries up.....PNY 5's that used to cost 125$ a rack are now going for 150$, PNY 1's that use to go for 225$ are now being listed at 285$ +..... GV 100s that were probably bought at $2 a chip are now being sold at $4 a chip.i feel like it is getting a little crazy....I guess there has not been too many new mint paulson chips from the chiproom in awhile, so this could factor in....

What think you guys!

Don't get me wrong, not trying to say anyone is doing anything wrong, if people are willing to pay, all the better for the seller, I know I have overpaid for chips that I needed to fill out a set,

Just curious as to what everyone thinks.

Jeff

Maybe we need a few casinos with really cool looking chips to go belly up. Then their chips will flood the market and with an increased supply of Paulson's, we can all get a few thousand each at a good price. :)

I agree with you. It seems the prices are higher but the demand is still there. As long as there are buyers willing to pay its ok with me. These things have a way of settling out once the price is set too high.

Yes, the prices are getting out of hand. Especially the 100, 500, 1000 denoms. I understand demand and supply, but some of the prices are ridiculous.

The first thing I thought when I started reading PCF in 2013, was "Man, these guys are asking and paying ridiculous prices!" and the chips are just commodities. Prices here were way higher than they had been on CT, and there were more supposed chip people parting out sets and selling individual chips and barrels here and on eBay.

On the CT marketplace, at its best, there was a sense of community, a common interest. I think most chippers saw long-term value to their hobby, in their own interests, in keeping sets together and selling within that community. Frankly, I don't see much of that here.

Now, since Paulson pulled out of the home market, things are absolutely ridiculous. There are so many people selling off chip hoards. Good time to sell; bad time to buy.

The real question - will there ever be a better time to buy? Or is this the new normal?

Unless Paulson re-enters the market (unlikely) or others join the market to increase production, it's hard to see why prices would come down, unless the quality of the alternatives gets much better.

Or with Paulson exiting the home chip scene, CPC may be the only place to get real clay chips. Will their prices inflate since they will own the market?

I did a WTB , 25c Blue PNY's from Apache and was offered some for $200+ per rack.

So, I would say, YES Apparently the price has increased.........

So who is left as options to provide authentic clay chips to non-casinos? I'm considering organizing a buy, but have been out of the loop for quite a few years. Thanks

Only CPC I'm afraid. CPC is the former ASM under new ownership. Still doing fantastic work too

I posted a huge thread on Chiptalk in '08 that had the original run numbers for the PNYs and there are a crap ton of $1 and $5 chips out there. However, they don't change hands any more. A lot of them went to Europe. There were at least 4 huge sets I remember and I believe they all were chopped up and sold (the sets, not the chips)

Is the Chiproom even searching anymore? I haven't talked to Jim in a while and I wonder if he is still on the hunt. It seems to me that casinos keep going down and no new chips..... Please Jim come back to us!!!!!!!!!

The Lucky Derby and Even Stevens release wasn't all that long ago...

It seems to me that there are very few Paulson for sale at the moment and unless more casino sets come to market. The prices are only going to go up.

That's because we here in Europe only get B&G chips, and they're no match for Paulsons :).

Man, I just started off with my very first set of Paulson poker chips. Dreaming of getting a casino tourney set, but the prices seem so prohibitive.

....except for my Aruba Palm Beach $25s in the classifieds now.
Relatively rare paulsons from a real casino for under $1 / chip!

Yeah, it floors me that those haven't sold, but sometimes the market is confusingly fickle. Great chips for a great price, imo.

I usually assume its just me. I couldn't give my TRKs away. I only got 80c / chip for a nice protege cash set. The list goes on...:(

Maybe everybody thinks it's international shipping, based on your location.

Hahaha yup! I always thought that until you just made me look closer.

I snagged a few of those PNYs back from Europe ;) (France)
I paid a premium (mostly for some of the $1ks) and the Euro exchange rate didn't help - (even though it was better than it has been in years)
I have inquired with others for PNYs and most are really reluctant to sell or have already sold them to European buyers..
I'm good with my set now though (2200+)
You can still find some relatively decent deals on Paulsons, but depends what it is..
The home market chips (world top hat, Pharaohs, James Bond 2005, etc.) are probably worth more than many casino chips these days.
Just a rare commodity now so prices reflect the demand.
Straight poker supplies is selling the WTHC for $3/chip (including shipping) on eBay.. $3.25 each for the $500 and $1ks... and people are buying them.
Makes me contemplate selling my WTHC heads up set..
Probably will sell a barrel of the $500s and a few $1ks and $5ks as I just don't need them... also probably less than $3 per chip ;)

I think it's unwise and pretty crazy to spend $3+ for home market Paulsons.... they may be in high demand, but they are not in short supply (unlike many/most casino chip sets). Hundreds of thousands of those home market chips were manufactured (including 100,000 Pharaoh's Club), as opposed to merely thousands (or only hundreds of some denominations, in some cases) of casino chips that were produced for each Paulson customer. High demand combined with short supply for those chips makes many of the high casino chip prices understandable.... but does not apply for the common home market chips, which are NOT a rare commodity.

Maybe it's because I already bought BGinGA $5 Arubas to use in a mix set ;)

I contemplated buying some $25s, but they would probably get neglected at my house as well ;)
have too many chips... let me rephrase.. have enough chips... let me rephrase.. agh never mind

Agreed.. but I don't really see people selling the WTHC often on the forum sites or eBay. Right now, they are in short supply.
I see people posting willing to buy for them though.. so demand is there.
They might be out there, but they aren't for sale all that often. So if you don't mind waiting, you're good.. if you need them sooner then later, you may have to pay the premium.
The other side of that is not being able to build a set of the casino chips because you have a harder time finding this denom or that.
There maybe a greater chance of finding everything you need with a home market chip.. that may increase demand somewhat when they pop up for sale.
The current reality is you could sell the WTHC $25s for twice what fish72s can sell his Aruba $25s for.. maybe sad, but true.
Maybe people just like the suits mold.. I know I do ;)

Also, online stores are still dictating the price for home paulsons, and online stores are in it for the profit, and not because they need the extra cash.

Casino chips are usually sold by individuals who need shortterm cash to pay unexpected bills, and that brings the price down. Retailers may offer the chips for $3 each, but they're not selling many of them. They're ok with that because in the long run they make a bigger profit on the chips.

And then there's the moron who thinks his BCC Proteges are worth over $2/chip. I do hope he gets hit up for eBay fees even though he doesn't sell them.
