these photos are fucking awesome. they're from a series done of rock musicians from the early 70s in their parents' homes. see how many you can name.

i'll post just the numbered photos with no caption and see who can identify the most. if you want to participate, don't scroll down and look at others' answers before jotting down and posting your own. be honest! the spaghetti monster will know if you cheated.

it will be no challenge for most people over 40, i'd think. i'm 34 and i missed two my first go round of trying to identify them (one of them was pretty embarrassing, but i do hate his music, so i have that going for me, which is nice).

I absolutely loved this article in Time but I had already seen it and so didn't respond. Maybe others did too. I didn't get #4 and #9 the first time and I still don't remember #4 even though I read the answer a couple days ago.

yeah i missed #9 as well. my other (admittedly, slightly embarrassing) miss was #2, but i hate his solo music, so i forgive myself.

I remember the pants. And the platform shoes. And the gaudy shag carpeting. Can only identify three positively, although I have decent guesses for four or five others. #1 and #3 were the easiest.

He looked like that his whole career... Until he passed in 93... Okay, he had short hair for a couple of years... :)

Btw, #2 looks like the best vocalist of rock ever, imo... From my favorite band... I might be wrong though...

Well, then I hope I am wrong also... I can see some people not thinking he's awesome and maybe not even liking his band but based on your reaction, I MUST be wrong :)

i hope to god for your sake you're wrong.

REALLY looks like the guy though!

it's mostly my own distaste for his solo work, but even the people who love him love him for his guitar playing. i'm not sure i've ever heard anyone fall over themselves complimenting his vocals.

btw, it's easy to find the answers for those of you lurking but who don't want to play (you might have to be using chrome): right click the image and "search google for this image."

OMG what the hell is she doing with that baby in #8? I'm not a music nerd so excuse me if I sound stupid if I think that's Cher.

I only recognized #1, #3, #5, and #8. Might have gotten #6 had I stared at it long enough.

I knew I was wrong based on your comment... No, the guy I'm thinking is not a guitar player, he's mainly a vocal guy... One of the top 5 rock guitar players ever was a huge part of his band though... Who am I thinking of Jack? Can u guess?

Really like Howe, but no... It was a good guess though...

Btw, still can't get #2 and #6... Both look awfully familiar but can't guess 'em for the life of me...

yeah i can see it. i always forget how tiny he was when he was that age.

my top 5 rock guitarists would be (in order starting with the best):

jimi hendrix
frank zappa
neil young
duane allman

Very, very, VERY respectable list!!! All MONSTERS...

I'd go with:

Hendrix
Allman (AB being my second favorite band)
Page
Vaughan
Iommi

But of course there's a personal musical taste component to the list... I can think of another 10 or so that could be in there, including Zappa and Gibbons...

agree with your top four, although i'd probably rank allman ahead of young. fifth spot is a crap shoot with lots of contenders, but i'd probably go with paige. zappa was the nutz.

dunno why i always seem to type in lowercase when responding to your posts....

#2 is Clapton (overrated per jbutler). #5 is nut-job Grace Slick. #9 had me fooled, but i see it now.

Without really thinking about it, my brain told me #2 was looking up from his smartphone when the picture was taken.

you ever hear the Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session? Incredible set. I listen to it at least once a day at work. They played that session 45 minutes from my house! Two of my music idols.
