Little music contest tonight! Win a rack of fracs! (1 Viewer)

Got busy playing and forgot about the contest -- only got 7 correct, but I did get the bonus question. :)

He's one of my favorite performers, I've been following him for over 20 years, going back to before he had a record deal and was solo playing small coffee shops and bar attics all over the country.. Hugely underrated; great live performer, and a very talented artist. Seen him a dozen times or more, and have several of his early self-produced CDs.

Morrison has absolutely no business on that wall.

OK, we have a thread for what PCF is listening to. It's been fun, and there's some pretty good stuff mentioned in there -- mostly newer music.

So I'm going to hold a little contest tonight to see who really knows their traditional musicians.

We have a local blues restaurant/bar/nightly live music venue, our favorite music hangout. On their walls, they have stylized portraits of some very well known singer/songwriter/musicians, mostly (arguably) of the blues genre. At 10pm tonight, EDT, I'll put up a picture here of two rows of seven singers each. The challenge is to name all 14, or, failing anyone doing that, see who can name the most.

The winner will receive the rack of blue ceramic Mardi Gras Casino fifty-cent chips pictured below. (They're blue, see?)

Rules:

1. DO NOT POST ANY ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD! Send your answers to me on PCF by PM.

2. Submit your entry as names, one to a line, numbered from 1 to 14. Lines 1 to 7 correspond to the pictures in the top row, from left to right; lines 8 to 14 are the bottom row, from left to right.

3. All entries must be sent by 10:15 pm tonight EDT. Yes, it's a short window, but I want to minimize the chances of someone using image searches, etc. to come up with the answers.

4. PCF members only; must have a minimum of 100 PCF posts to be eligible.

5. One PM only, thus one entry per PCF member. If I receive more than one PM from you after 10 pm, you are disqualified. Tough noogies.

6. In the event of a tie in the number of correct answers, I will post one more portrait as soon as possible after 10:30. The winner will be the first entrant to send me a PM correctly naming that musician.

7. Anyone living within 25 miles of Sarasota is ineligible (I'm afraid this means you, @k9dr, because you've probably been there).

Sample entry:
---------------------------
1. John Lennon
2. Paul McCartney
....
13. George Harrison
14. Ringo Starr
---------------------------

Good luck all!

Same here -- but I'm always surprised to run across anyone who knows him. Good on yer, Dave.

Up in DC, my wife used to carry her Paul Thorn lunchbox in to work every now and then. :)

When we were building our house down here, we flew down one weekend just to see him at the Blue Rooster -- we've been in tight with the BR manager ever since. He comes here once or twice a year, and sells the house out.

We're catching him three times in one week next month -- solo acoustic at the BR on Wednesday the 15th, again Thursday at the BR with the band (Bill Hinds, yay! *great* guitarist), and Saturday up in Clearwater at the Capitol Theater. We're taking a break Thursday, when he's in Ponte Vedra Beach.

For those who don't know him -- take a listen to, say, "Snake Farm" on youtube. (And he did go seven rounds with Roberto Duran. Supposedly, Duran wants to play some congas on a future album.)

Morrison has absolutely no business on that wall.

Agreed. But then I don't know the motivation behind whoever did those posterizations, or where they came from...they might have been in the building before the BR opened. And Thorn's self-portrait really doesn't fit in very well stylistically.

Not a very good litmus test for good musical artists imo. More people who don't write/play/sing here:

Not the Tempts without David Ruffin... {sniff}

I just grabbed the first decent pic that included the name in case someone didn't recognize them (which wouldn't be a shock given this thread).

RIP David and Jimmy both, both of whom had solo recordings as good as some of the best Temptations material.

Neil Young should ask that photographer for his money back.
I did pick him out of the lineup, but gotta admit he looks a lot like the Old Man on Pawn Stars.....
