Poker Chip Shipping Tips and Tricks (2 Viewers)

Yeah. It was a USPS Priority Small Box (not a SFRB).
I try to address any inside packaging if I’m using envelopes. It’s just so easy for something to snag on it or for someone to intentionally rip it open. If it’s addressed then they can’t say they don’t know where it came from or where it’s going. It will either be returned or the buyer will owe postage that you can refund.

Yup. I never had this issue before and its such an obvious move the moment one sees the empty envelope delivered.

Since paper-gate I've been videotaping the packaging and weighing of anything I send. I zoomed in hoping I can see the barcode / number on the box in the envelope and USPS could track the unlabeled box with it but it isn't discernible. I did have exact weight of package and receiver has gone to USPS to see if it can be located but lets face it... It's gone.

If insurance pays out in full and quicky it'll be no harm.

Note that in recent sales I build in the insurance expense into my price even if buyer pays shipping. After paper-gate I would give the option to be "self insured" or pay for insurance but now I just assume insurance in the price. .e.g: These Bellagio $5 barrels priced @ $370 plus buyer shipping will include the $3 insurance premium in the $370. https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/live-bellagio-5.137075/

I’ve seen it questioned here before, but I also wonder if the insurance for hundreds of dollars alerts someone and makes the package more attractive to stealing in transit.

So my work-around, which may or may not work, is that it's third party insurance. In theory the post office and USPS employees don't know it's insured. BUT I'm not entirely sure who the players are or who has access to who's data.

lol sorry more. Up until about about 5-6 years ago when you got insurance they pasted a special green label on the outside of the box that detailed the value. No other packages had this except high value and insured ones.

I think they learned their lesson about labeling those specifically because they were so easily identifiable.

Now it’s at least not a green flag saying “steal me!””

Is USPS still the way to go? I only ship CONUS, I have never had issues buying or selling, always FRB.

Thanks
If you live anywhere near a FedEx store the move IMO is their flat rate (OneRate) shipping options. You do have to get their (free) supplies. A similar bubble mailer is retail $14 shipped with $100 of insurance. If you sign up for a free account the it drops to $12.50. No brainer for me. They have lots of options that rival USPS. I have not figured out how to get the rate at home (likely a me problem) to print, but have always gotten it in store. YMMV

I wasn’t aware of that. I’ve had the same suspicions though. And I wonder which post office employees have access to the insurance information.

I’m looking to put together 10-15 sample sets that include 2 43mm IHC and 1 39mm THC.

The challenge is I’m located in Canada so I’m curious if the best idea would be to ship the lot to a US member and ask them to kindly re-ship the sets so they don’t need to cross the border individually. I have spoke with a couple people kind enough to offer this service but haven’t gotten into the details.

Anyone know the best way to ship once they are in the US? Padded envelope? I’m worried the chips may shift and scratch against each other. Perhaps wrapping individually inside said envelope?

I’m also struggling to come up with a shipping cost that I can build into the set. I would like to make it simple and have a shipped price but not being in the US and trying to find a one size fits all shipping cost is tricky. I haven’t nailed down an exact cost for the chips yet either….

Sample set in question below

I’d put them in a sandwich bag and roll them up tight and tape it. Maybe use a small cardboard box instead of a padded mailer too.

Re-size a box to almost any size you need.

This video on YT will show you how.

I always thought that the flat rate boxes were fairly strict with their sizing, so the USPS computer could figure out how many flat rate boxes fit on a plane, and maybe their orientation. If you take a box that scans at a certain size, like MFRB, but your box is a different size, that may be an issue?
It’s one thing if you’re sending your own box that you have entered the measurements, but when they scan that altered flat-rate box, they’ll be expecting a different size.

Sweet Harrahs $1. Most underrated $1 on the strip.

But on topic: I think you make life easy on your reshipping bro. You build the individual sample sets in 4x7 envelopes. Affix mailing labels, etc.

Mail all those to your us reshipper or perhaps better is to reship to a Canadian near border that will drop your 15 preaddressed sample sets in the mail. Cheaper Canada to Canada domestic shipping and no tariff worry.

Those small envelopes will be about $5.25 per shipment.

Agreed. Especially with modded boxes which become larger than standard.

Maybe, but that box went inside a jumbo expansion poly mailer and shipped Ground. ;)

When it comes to loading cargo planes, weight and hazardous materials are the most important factors.

I am looking to ship 5,000 chips in the coming weeks. Does anyone have suggestions or links to others that have done this size of shipment? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Before I weigh in, a couple quick questions:
  1. Are the chips stored in chip boxes (Warneke boxes)?
  2. Do you have packing material to both protect the chips and fill any empty space in the shipping boxes?

I unfortunately don’t have boxes, just stored chip trays (which I imagine will waste space and cause potential damage?).
I would also need to get supplies.

Use the link that @SixSeven put up and grab yourself 60 of those boxes. Good to always have some extras.

Grab yourself a roll of Kraft paper. This stuff is gold and you can use it both for wrapping several racks together as well as crumple it up for padding. I believe similar deals can be found on Amazon.

If you’d like to go a step further in protecting the goods, grab yourself a roll or two of bubble wrap and put it around the racks for added protection.

Question I forgot to ask which is super important, are you planning on shipping these in one container or using several boxes?

If you don’t have boxes (or don’t want to buy them) this is a good way to go:

1) USPS Priority Padded Mailer Method
A USPS Priority Padded Mailer can comfortably fit two barrels laid flat at the bottom. Roll them up tightly and secure them with painter’s tape. Then, place the mailer inside a snug-fitting box, and finally into the main shipping box—whether that's an MFRB, LFRB, or whatever size is most appropriate.
When I use this method I fill them across the bottom standing on edge, then roll the envelope up a bit so the first layer is fully protected and you have a new “bottom” in the same envelope. Then do another row of chips, fold up and tape shut. Should be able to get at least one very secure and padded rack per envelope.
