Okay, I would love to purchase a Chanman custom cloth for a playing surface. That is out of the price range for right now. What fabric, from like Joann's, is the closest match to this or like the playing surface at casinos? Thanks.

Your best bet is to go there and feel'em out.

FWIW I have a table that has billiard cloth on it and it's great.

eBay typically has a few sellers of speedcloth that are reasonable.

Probably the best alternative is a wool army blanket. I have quite a few and they are great to just throw on a table and get going. Army surplus store. Works for poker and board games.

Speed cloth is great, but a little pricier and has no padding. You can get a roll of headliner foam from a fabric store pretty cheaply though which has a nice amount of padding and a soft nylon playing surface and would make a good cheap table topper. Neoprene also works well, but is a little more expensive.

Nylon and nylon/polyester blends make for pretty cheap (and slick) playing surfaces. Several colors available from Jo-Ann's.

I built a table many years ago and found a faux suede looking material that I used for years over headliner for padding. Bought at JoAnns. Works great. Note I didn't use the faux suede that looks exactly like real suede...cards won't slide on that.

I would take a deck of cheap cards to JoAnns and slide one across some fabrics. Make sure you go online for their coupons.

I never felt the need to buy specialty poker cloth

I've built a table with speed cloth. It's very rough. I was looking for more of the gaming suede material.

I re-covered a table with suited speed cloth, without knowing there were cheap knockoffs. I ordered the cheap stuff and just assumed it was all stiff like that. I recently saw a picture of somebody building a table and their speedcloth actually DRAPED over the table, as he was sizing it. you know, like you’d expect fabric to do.
So don’t buy the cheap suited speed cloth.

Note: "suede" is not "gaming suede." Don't make that mistake.

Ultrasoft velveteen is a good option from Joanne's.

FWIW, take cards with you to Joanne's. Roll out an 8' stretch and pitch cards to see how they move. The workers will actually move the roll of fabric over to a cutting table so you can do this...

Nylon velvet speed cloth is really plush and super comfortable, I'd love to have a blanket made out of that stuff. It's not waterproof though unfortunately, and cards slide "ok" on it, but not nearly as well as suited speed cloth. Same with Velveteen, good card slide, but not excellent card slide.
