I see that makes sense. Did you wash them before you oiled them? Is that a necessary step?

Depends on the chips. If they're obviously gunky, then yes. I just picked up a large set of Desert Palms China Clays and they all appear to be fairly clean so I won't be cleaning them first.

If they were used compression clays, or still had the factory dust I would clean them no matter the appearance. Just because. YMMV.

Has anybody just oiled up the edges only instead of the whole chip?
