So I went and played the 1K freezeout WSOP event. I prepped for the tournament strenuously. I haven’t played a hold ‘em tournament for about 9 months, and I drank like a fish from 11:30a to 6:30a the night before when my 20/40 mixed game broke (1).

(1) the game didn’t break. I passed out at the table for a full 2 minutes. Maybe 128 Captain and Cokes were a bad idea.

So I make it down the tourney fashionably late (90 minutes) after 4 hours sleep, and proceed to win a big pot with aces full my first hand.

I’m in a groove and comfortable and playing well and have GREAT reads on my table. I’ve felt like this maybe a half dozen times at a NLHE tournament and have prolly cashed 5 times. I’m going deep. Everything is PERFECT.

And then the tyrannical tourney director breaks our entire row of tables. The clock is still running. We have to bag chips and wait for directions. Clock still running. Get told to hold our chips out and follow the TD. Clock still running.

We walk through Paris and into Ballys. I know from friends that the room air is alternatively stagnant and hot and it’s miserable over there.

…I seriously thought about just turning around and going to my room with the tourney chips. They have zero way to track you, and I did NOT want to play at Bally’s. All that mojo, gone.

I busted the next level making a dumb play and then a KT < AT cooler when the turn boated him tens full and the river boated me. (TTXAK board).

Seriously wish I would’ve just gone back to the room with my bag. Prolly won’t play another WSOP tourney until we get assurances that we’ll at least continue play in the same property that we started in.

That fucking royally sucked.

Anyway, chipes.

are they like error coins?
No, not really. As I understand it, error coins absolutely SKYROCKET in value, because of the insane unlikelihood of them ever making it out the door.

Error chips are significantly more common (although still pretty unusual) and errors have basically zero effect on value. It's just a "huh, neat" kind of thing.

That is true now...but that might not always be the case. There are lots of examples of things changing and I bet they will indeed follow what coins do and go up in value (maybe not as much, but I bet they would be worth significantly more). This hobby is still small and new relatively to coins or other collectables. History likes to repeat itself.

Yeah... I'll take the under. Casino chips and coins are not the same thing. Chips have have been around for quite some time now, and people have been collecting them for a long time as well. The coin collecting industry has showed interest in moving in and trying to change chip collecting before and it hasn't gone well.

I used to say don't collect chips as an investment, but people with deep enough pockets have splashed around enough money for a long enough time that it has moved the needle on what chips are seen to be worth these days. At least some of those people seem to be unloading now. We'll see how the dust settles.

I wouldn't suggest going all in on error casino chips unless you really like them. I like them a lot, but I wouldn't go spending anything more than your expendable income on them hoping they will be worth "significantly more" anytime soon... But like I said, I've been wrong before.

saw a chip in person finally, someone stole it for their card capper, and the inlay situation makes these mixed spot stacks extra tilting. The 518 are blue inlay. The 5V are white inlay. The trimoon are tan inlay. So forget the spots not progressing, the inlays don’t match! Yuck

That fluorescent yellow 25k almost hurts to look at. I don't mind a decent yellow chip, but that's a bit much

Something about me finds red chips outside of a cash game to be so boring. I think it's that all the dice chips have so many white and red chips :D
And that would make so much sense if there weren't any blue chips in those sets but there are. So even outside of the quality itself, something just feels dirty about red chips to me. What is wrong with me? :D

T1M is nice. I like it a lot more because the spots are close in color which makes the uneven 5v pattern (why Caesars why!!!!!!!!!!!) look a lot better. The T500k is cool as well.

Because of the placement, I always see “Poker World” first, which really confuses me. Should have aligned the inlays differently so World Series pops first.
